This past Tuesday (7), the Brazilian basketball team lost to the United States 122-87 in the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games. Olivinha, Flamengo's idol and former Brazilian national team player, opened the game after the Brazilians were eliminated.

“Looking on the positive side: we were among the top eight at the Olympics. This, without sponsorship, a coach who has no salary, a fight between the confederation and the national league and little investment in the youth categories. Imagine if we get it together a little, where can we get?”, wrote Olivinha.

Olivinha believes that the fight between the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB) and the National Basketball League (LNB) is hindering the selection from Brazil. This is because the two organizations are going through bureaucratic disagreements about carrying out the NBB. Thus, the lack of agreement is one of the points that keep sponsors away even from the national team.

COACH WITHOUT SALARY

The Mais Querido idol also commented that Croatian coach Aleksandar Petrović does not receives fixed salaries in the Brazilian team, which is one of the points that hinders Brazil's possible growth in the sport. However, Olivinha praised the country's final result.

BRAZIL'S CAMPAIGN

Brazil finished third in Group B of the Olympic Games, with victory against Japan and defeats against France and Germany. Thus, the Brazilian team faced the United States in the quarterfinals and lost 122 to 87, ending its participation among the eight best in the world.

This Friday morning (2), the Brazilian basketball team finally won a match at the Paris Olympics. With Bruno Caboclo shining on the court, Brazil maintained its hope of qualifying for the quarterfinals of the competition. The team faced Japan and won 102 to 84.MATCH SUMMARY

Brazil started the match with a different team from the previous two games in Paris. Bruno Caboclo had an unforgettable first quarter, dominating the opening ten minutes and finishing the first half with 15 points and three rebounds, helping the Brazilian team to finish the first quarter ahead by 31 to 20.

The Brazilian advantage built in the first fourth was undone by the Japanese in less than five minutes in the second period. Bruno Caboclo committed the second foul just before the end of the first quarter and started the second on the bench. Without the reference man in the paint, Brazil became more vulnerable in terms of rebounds.

However, the team found its footing again offensively thanks to Vitor Benite's three-pointers. The number 8 was responsible for 13 points in the period and helped Brazil go to the dressing rooms winning 55 to 44.

When the break came around, Japan bet on the good performance of point guard Yuki Kawamura. The number 5 managed to score in every way and, together with winger Josh Hawkinson, helped command the Japanese reaction, which saw the deficit fall, finishing ahead by 77 to 73.

The match remained balanced in the last quarter, with two teams playing for a victory to continue dreaming of a place in the quarter-finals. However, the Brazilians did not allow the Japanese to take the lead and won the match 102 to 84, keeping their chances of qualifying alive.
