Flamengo is keeping an eye on the South American market in search of reinforcements for next season. According to information provided by Matias Torres, a source close to the Rio club, the target is the promising Uruguayan striker Luciano Rodríguez, currently at Liverpool Montevideo.

At just 20 years old, Rodríguez has already demonstrated versatility and talent in attack, which makes him a valuable piece for any team. His contract with Liverpool Montevideo extends until 2027, but Flamengo is willing to invest in his services.

The interest of Flamengo is not unique. Other Serie A clubs showed interest in the young striker earlier this year. His performance on the field has caught the attention of scouts and coaches, who see in him great potential to stand out in the Brazilian football scene.

FLAMENNGO GOES TO THE MARKET HEAVY

The year 2023 was remarkable for Luciano Rodríguez. In addition to winning the Uruguayan Championship with Liverpool Montevideo, the player played a fundamental role in winning the U20 World Cup with the Uruguayan National Team. These achievements did not go unnoticed by observers of international football, who now see in him a promise to be explored.

The possible signing of Luciano Rodríguez by Flamengo represents a bet on the club's future. With a squad already full of stars, the arrival of the young striker could bring freshness and an important tactical alternative for the coach and the team. For now, negotiations are at an early stage, and there are no guarantees that the deal will be completed. Flamengo will have to negotiate with Liverpool Montevideo and with the player himself to reach a satisfactory agreement for all parties involved.

During Real Madrid's 3-0 victory over Real Oviedo this Sunday (24), at the Carlos Tartiere Stadium, Flamengo's young player, Vini Jr, and Kylian Mbappé were targets of racist attacks from the stands . The images, shown by the Spanish program El Día Después, from Movistar, recorded screams with monkey sounds at two different moments of the match.

WHAT HAPPENED

The first incident occurred shortly after Mbappé 's goal, when the Frenchman celebrated by kneeling on the pitch. Although it wasn't a collective chant, the insults were clearly captured by the match's broadcast cameras .

In the second half, when he came on to replace Rodrygo, Vini Jr. was also the target of racist chants and insults from a significant segment of the home crowd . The hostility escalated throughout the match, to the point where the Brazilian argued with some fans.

IN THE GAME, VINI JR. AND MBAPPÉ DECIDED

On the field, Real Madrid had no trouble defeating Oviedo with authority. Mbappé opened the scoring in the 37th minute of the first half. In the second half, Vini Jr., a Flamengo talent, shone, contributing to the next two goals .

The number 7 made a great play and assisted the Frenchman to extend the lead. In stoppage time, in the 48th minute of the second half, Brahim Díaz led a counterattack on the right, reversed the play, and found Vini Jr. The striker charged at the defense, burst into the box, and finished with class , scoring a stunning goal that sealed the 3-0 victory.

Flamengo released an official statement on Monday (25) criticizing the CBF's decision to bring forward the end of the Brazilian Championship to December 7 and push back the dates of the Copa do Brasil. According to the red-black board, the change harms the season's planning and puts the athletes' health at risk .

ISONOMY PREJUDICED

The club stated that it had been consulted previously and had expressed its opposition to the change . Even so, the organization unilaterally confirmed the change, which generated strong dissatisfaction among the club's directors. Flamengo believes the decision violates the competition's equality, as it favors teams that do not compete in the Libertadores.

Flamengo on changes to the CBF calendar: "Such a scenario compromises the season's sports planning and, above all, the health of athletes"

In the note, the club highlighted:

"The decision, which brings forward rounds and shortens the competition period, imposes on Flamengo a heavier schedule of games and long trips in reduced intervals, in some cases even violating the minimum 66-hour period between matches —especially after the South American World Cup Qualifiers. This scenario compromises the season's sports planning and, above all, the health of the athletes."

NO REST

With the change in the calendar, Flamengo loses free weeks it would have had during the simultaneous Libertadores and Brasileirão competitions . Outside of the Copa do Brasil, the team could have used the period to train, recover players, and fine-tune the squad. Now, it will once again have an intense sequence of games, which could directly impact its title race.

NEXT APPOINTMENT

After the impressive 8-0 win over Vitória, Flamengo is now preparing for Sunday's game (31), when they host Grêmio at Maracanã for the 22nd round of the Brasileirão . Mengão is the isolated leader of the championship with 46 points, four ahead of Palmeiras, in second place in the table.

Flamengo's youth academy has reached an agreement with Vasco and will be a reinforcement in this window.

The midfielder didn't get the space he expected at Crystal Palace and is on his way to the rival, despite his connection with Mengão since the youth academy.

The transfer window continues to be a busy one for Brazilian clubs . Flamengo has already slowed down its search after signing Samuel Lino, Saúl Ñíguez, Emerson Royal, and Carrascal . Meanwhile, Vasco da Gama has strengthened its position with a longtime club favorite: Matheus França.

NEGOTIATION CLOSED

According to journalist Lucas Pedrosa, Vasco da Gama signed the player from Crystal Palace (ENG). The deal is a loan deal until June 2026, with the Rio de Janeiro club covering 70% of the midfielder's salary.

The negotiation, however, almost didn't come to fruition. This is because Estoril (POR) and Braga (POR) also showed interest. Despite this, Matheus França made it clear that he wanted to play for Vasco, and his wishes were respected by the English . The athlete is expected to arrive in Rio de Janeiro this Tuesday (26).

TRAJECTORY AT FLAMENGO

A product of Flamengo 's youth academy, Matheus França made it to the professional ranks in 2022, winning the Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil . In 2023, he had a good run under Vítor Pereira, which led Crystal Palace to invest 20 million euros (around R$104 million at the time) in his signing.

FOCUS ON THE FIELD

While monitoring market movements, Flamengo turns its attention to its next match . After the incredible 8-0 win over Vitória, Filipe Luís' team faces Grêmio this Sunday (31), at 4 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã, for the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship.
