Flamengo's Vice President of Marketing, Gustavo Oliveira, shared his vision about the possibility of the club acquiring Maracanã as its own stadium. In an interview with Máquina do Esporte, he argued that Maracanã represents an ideal solution, despite recognizing the improbability of this scenario. According to Oliveira, Maracanã is a beautiful stadium that meets the conceptual criteria of a World Cup arena. Its privileged location, wide acceptance among fans and transport accessibility make it an attractive option.

The director highlighted that, although there is a gap in relation to parking, this issue could be resolved through future investments. However, he emphasized that, if he had the opportunity to choose, he would choose to buy Maracanã. In Gustavo Oliveira's view, this acquisition would benefit the government, Flamengo and Rio de Janeiro football as a whole, allowing more than R$1 billion to be invested in areas such as education and health.

Although the purchase of Maracanã is seen as unlikely, Flamengo is actively participating in the bidding for the concession of the stadium for 20 years. If the club wins this bid, the intention is to treat Maracanã as if it were its own home. Flamengo's vice-president of Marketing emphasized that, with a long-term concession, the club would have the opportunity to implement the necessary changes to improve the stadium. This would include the creation of a popular ticket sector, an initiative that aims to make football more accessible to the fan base.

According to Gustavo Oliveira, Maracanã currently has an unfavorable distribution of cheap tickets, making it difficult to allocate specific areas for fans on a limited budget. However, he emphasized that a 20-year concession would open up the possibility of exploring new sources of revenue for Flamengo at the Maracanã. Flamengo's acquisition of Maracanã is seen as strategic, not only to improve the team's home performance, but also to strengthen the club's fan membership program and seek naming rights agreements, in addition to collecting valuable data about fans.

In relation to the investments and revenues that Flamengo could obtain with the stadium, Gustavo Oliveira preferred not to go into details, mentioning that there is a study group dedicated to this issue. He highlighted the positive partnership with Fluminense, which has worked together to explore all possibilities related to Maracanã. Flamengo's vice-president also mentioned the price taken to extend the club's stay at the stadium for another year, before 20-year tender. This decision is being handled by a special working group, once again highlighting the productive collaboration between Flamengo and Fluminense.

As part of the management of Maracanã, Flamengo and Fluminense must present their proposal to keep the stadium in good condition. 2024, in an attempt to ensure its continuity. However, Vasco da Gama is seeking to challenge the public call notice, casting an element of uncertainty over the process. In short, Gustavo Oliveira's vision reveals the strategic importance of Maracanã for Flamengo, even if the acquisition of the stadium could be a distant scenario. The club is committed to improving the stadium and making it more accessible to fans, while seeking opportunities to increase its revenue and presence in the sports market.

In an interview given after the defeat of Flamengoto Peñarol, 1-0, coach Tite was direct in responding to the boos received by the fans. The statement, marked by a frank tone, exposed the coach's pragmatic vision in relation to demanding fans and the pressure for results. “I respect the fans’ feelings. Of course I feel that (the boos), I'm human”, said Tite, recognizing the fans' frustration in the face of the setback.

Tite's speech reveals that he understands the role of fans as a fundamental part in the context of a club, especially in a team of great expression like Flamengo. By mentioning that the boos affect him as a human being, the coach demonstrates empathy, but does not fail to highlight that the only way to reverse this situation is with achievements on the field. “It can only be reversed in one way”, pointed out the coach.

THE MISTAKE THAT COSTED EXTREMELY DEARLY

The response reflects the experience of Titein dealing with pressure who follows the command of great teams in Brazilian football. With successful spells at clubs such as Corinthians, Grêmio and the Brazilian national team itself, the coach has a track record that puts him in a position to understand, perhaps like few others, the relationship between performance on the field and fans' expectations. For him, this connection is clear: “Do you know how to win fans? Do you know how I won over the fans of the other clubs I played for? Win an important title”, he declared.

The phrase highlights the centrality of titles in football, especially in mass clubs like Flamengo. In Brazil, the culture of results is intense, and Tite recognizes that fans have a limited tolerance for negative results. Winning titles, for him, is the key to gaining the support of the fans, and anything other than that results in discontent: “If not, bye.”

This last part of Tite's speech summarizes the characteristic impatience of demanding fans like Flamengo. The coach makes it clear that, without obtaining relevant trophies, the relationship with the fans deteriorates quickly. The pressure is constant and is part of the daily life of those who take on the leadership of top teams. Tite seems, however, to be aware of this scenario and how it needs to be faced.

Tite's statement came after a delicate moment for Flamengo. The defeat to Peñarol, at home, in a group stage match of the Copa Libertadores, raised alarm bells for fans and the coaching staff. Flamengo had high expectations for the season, especially after major reinforcements and the arrival of Tite, a coach with wide recognition on the national and international scene.

The pressure on Flamengo is nothing new. The club, which has one of the biggest fans in the world, is known for its high expectations for titles. The expensive squad, made up of renowned players, also increases this demand. Each stumble is widely covered by the media and amplifies the dissatisfaction of part of the fans, who demand immediate results.

CAN IT GO BAD AT THE MOMENT?

The Copa Libertadores, in particular, has a important meaning for Flamengo and its fans. The continental tournament is seen as one of the club's main objectives each season. Any result other than victory can generate dissatisfaction and pressure on the technical committee, as occurred after the setback against Peñarol.

In this context, Tite's speech not only recognizes the fans' dissatisfaction, but also is realistic in relation to what is expected from a club like Flamengo. The demand for titles is part of the package when taking over a club of this size, and the coach seems to be aware of this when he points out that he will only be able to win the support of the fans with significant victories.

Maracanã, the stage for the passions and glories of Brazilian football, faced an unusual challenge this week: hosting three games in just three days. After the epic duel between Brazil and Argentina last Tuesday, the stadium administration tried to ensure that the field was in ideal conditions for the clashes between Fluminense and São Paulo, followed by the eagerly awaited clash between Flamengo and Bragantino.

Faced with the dazzling spectacle of the South American classic, Maracanã had no time to rest. The team responsible for maintaining the pitch worked tirelessly to ensure that the surface was impeccable for the local clashes. According to the exclusive investigation of the Coluna do Fla report, a series of special precautions were adopted.

The process of revitalizing the lawn included a meticulous cleaning cut, adjustments to the height of the grass, specific repairs to damaged areas and the crucial rescheduling of the game lines. These actions were carried out with surgical precision during Wednesday, preceding the second game of the marathon between Fluminense and São Paulo, valid for the Brasileirão.

With the stage properly prepared, the tricolors and paulistas entered the field at 9:30 pm , in Brasília time, featuring a duel that promised to be as exciting as the clash between the national teams. The Maracanã, always imposing, once again received the passion of the fans in the midst of an unprecedented sequence of matches.

After the final whistle of the second game, the attention of the maintenance team turned to the third and the last clash of the sporting triad. Flamengo, the club with the biggest fans in the country, would enter the scene to face Bragantino in a delayed match of the 30th round of the Brasileirão. The pressure was great, not only on the players, but also on the pitch which, although resistant, needed to withstand another intense night of football.

The same procedures applied previously were repeated, showing the dedication of the Maracanã administration in offering the best conditions for the show. The expectations of the company in charge of the grass were clear: the playing surface would be in excellent condition for the duel between Flamengo and Bragantino. However, the awareness that such an intense sequence of matches could cause wear and tear was latent.

The duality between the desire to provide a quality spectacle and the concern about the wear and tear of the pitch reflects the complexity faced by managers of the stadium. Maracanã, temple of Brazilian football, is more than just a playing field; it is a stage where stories are written and emotions are experienced intensely.

At the end of this football marathon, the certainty resided in the unwavering passion of the fans and in Maracanã's ability to overcome challenges. The spectacle, on and off the pitch, is the true essence of football, and Maracanã continues to be the epicenter of this unique experience. Regardless of the necessary care, the lawn, like the passion for football, remains resilient, ready to welcome the emotions that only Brazil's most beloved sport is capable of providing.
