Newly arrived at Flamengo, José Boto already arouses expectations as one of the major acquisitions of Brazilian football outside the field. With extensive experience in European clubs, the Portuguese was singled out by Tostão, an icon of national football, as a professional capable of contributing to an evolution in sport in Brazil.

Penny Analysis

In his column in Estadão, Tostão praised the choice of Flamengo by a specialist in the field, breaking with common practices in the country.

“He (Boto), because he is a professional and not a director chosen by the club's friends, as is often the case in Brazil, could contribute a lot to the evolution of our football, imbued with the Brazilian way, the exchange of favors, the adulation and hair privileges”, highlighted the former player.

Tostão's review reflects his confidence that Boto can bring a moretechnical and less influenced vision by external interests, something necessary for the development of football in the country.

José Boto's career

Before arriving at Flamengo, Boto had notable spells at several European clubs, including:

Benfica (Portugal): Renowned for identifying and developing South American talent.

Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukraine): Recognized for scouting work in smaller markets.

PAOK (Greece) and Osijek (Croatia): Experiences that consolidated their expertise in discovery and management sports.

With a successful track record in recruiting promising young players and working in clubs from different contexts, Boto stands out for its ability to combine efficiency and strategic vision.

What to expect from Boto at Flamengo

Boto arrives with the mission of professionalizing the red-black football department even further, with focus on market analysis, attracting talent and forming a competitive squad for 2025 and beyond.

His signing reflects the search for Flamengo for modernizing its management and, potentially, influencing other Brazilian teams to adopt similar models, professionalizing football in the country.

Flamengo continues preparations for the duel against Juventude , next Sunday (14), in Caxias do Sul, for the 23rd round of the Brasileirão. In training, coach Filipe Luís has rotated the squad and given space to young people from Ninho do Urubu, among them Ryan Roberto , an attacking midfielder of just 17 years old, considered one of the main jewels of the red-black base.

In the activity this Monday (8), held at CT Ninho do Urubu, Ryan trained with the professionals, participating in the technical and tactical work led by the coach. This was the first time that the jewel joined coach Filipe Luís' team .

FILIPE LUÍS AND THE BET ON THE BASE

Filipe Luís isn't new to including young players in the first team's activities. Before taking over the senior team, he worked with Flamengo 's under-17 and under-20 teams, winning important titles such as the Rio Under-17 Cup and the 2024 Under-20 World Cup , which he won against Olympiacos at the Maracanã stadium. Therefore, the coach is well acquainted with the club's promising talent.

WHO IS RYAN ROBERTO?

Considered one of the biggest bets in the youth academy, Ryan Roberto already has a contract until 2027 and a release clause set at 50 million euros (around R$318 million), as a way of protecting himself from possible approaches from European football.

The youngster was part of the squad that won the U-20 World Cup for the second time against Barcelona, although he wasn't used by coach Bruno Pivetti . With the recent departures of Lorran and Matheus Gonçalves, Ryan should gain more space in the U-20s and, who knows, pave the way for opportunities in the senior squad.

Flamengo's Bruno Henrique's suspension due to the betting case at the Superior Court of Justice (STJD) continues to be a hot topic among fans and sports commentators. The most notable aspect was the number of games he was suspended for: 12 matches, which experts consider low , especially compared to similar punishments in Brazilian soccer.

André Rizek on Bruno Henrique, from Flamengo: "What Bruno Henrique did is different"

The issue quickly gained prominence on sports programs and social media , raising discussions about the proportionality of the decision, especially considering the most recent cases involving sports betting in Brazil.

ANALYSIS BY ANDRÉ RIZEK

On SporTV, journalist André Rizek analyzed the case critically and highlighted that many comparisons are being made incorrectly: “There is confusion, as some people are using completely different cases to compare the punishment received by BH ,” he stated.

For Rizek, it's important to differentiate the type of infraction committed: "What's very clear to me is that it's not the same thing. What Bruno Henrique did is different from a player harming his own club, acting on behalf of a criminal organization to make a profit . These are different things that can't be lumped together," the journalist concluded.

CAN BRUNO HENRIQUE PLAY IN THE LIBERTADORES?

Despite being suspended for 12 rounds in the Brasileirão, Bruno Henrique remains free to compete in the Libertadores , as the punishment only applies to competitions organized by the CBF (such as the Brasileirão and Copa do Brasil).

Journalist Venê Casagrande explained the situation: "Many people will ask: is there an appeal? Yes, there is. And Flamengo has already decided to appeal the decision because internally the club wasn't happy with the result. They understand that 12 games is a very severe punishment. It's worth remembering: the Libertadores isn't included because it's a CONMEBOL tournament ," he stated.
