In the last transfer window, Flamengo tried to repatriate Lucas Paquetá, who is currently plays for West Ham (ING). Remembering that the midfielder even said "yes" to Rubro-Negro, as he wanted "new air". Vice-president of football at Mais Querido, Marcos Braz revealed details of the negotiation with the player and said that the "caring" attitude of the English team "decided" the direction of the negotiation.
"I talked to Paquetá twice, I was personally involved in this. He was inclined and really liked the idea of coming here. His lawyers also liked the idea of him leaving. of European football, much more of English football, in a defense strategy. They thought it was important to give some fresh air outside of there. We dealt with a lot of things, we made a lot of progress", said Marcos Braz, in an interview with journalist Raisa Simplício.
"But at a certain point his own team began to understand that it was much better to use the player for as long as they had, for sporting part, because the championship is very tough there and they chose to keep the player there. They (West Ham) were complacent, they committed that they would not prosecute him. It seems that the team was very nice, very cordial and this left Paquetá in an uncomfortable situation to force an exit", added Braz.
PAQUETÁ UNDER INVESTIGATION
Lucas Paquetá is being investigated by English Federation for alleged participation in match manipulation. Furthermore, the midfielder is being accused of deliberately taking yellow cards in English Championship games to allegedly help friends who bet on the warning. Going to Mais Querido was seen as a way of "cooling down" the matter.
Thus, the trial was scheduled for March 2025 and, depending on the sentence, the midfielder could even be expelled from football. Until then, however, Paquetá continues to play normally for West Ham and also plays for the Brazilian national team.
