The player was indicted by the Federal Police for alleged involvement in a sports betting manipulation scheme. In a press conference after the match, coach Filipe Luís commented on the case and came out in defense of the athlete.

According to the coach, the striker maintained a calm and professional demeanor throughout the day. “ I spoke to him, he is absolutely normal. He went on the field, was a teammate, a friend to his friends, completely present. He is a very important player and is available to me,” said Filipe Luís, who also stressed the need to respect the presumption of innocence until a conviction is made.
In addition to defending the striker, the Flamengo coach vehemently criticized the influence of betting on modern football. “It’s an addiction, it’s a drug. I’ve already turned down several sponsorship offers from betting houses. In 20 years, we’ll look back and realize the extent of the damage this has caused ,” said Filipe Luís, mentioning that clubs and athletes are still not fully aware of the social impacts involved.
Flamengo 's coach also revealed that the club has been adopting educational measures. According to him, all players have received formal guidance on what is allowed and what should be avoided when it comes to sports betting. “Athletes are increasingly being instructed to never be approached. This is essential to protect the integrity of the sport,” he concluded.
The case under investigation dates back to the final stretch of the 2023 Brazilian Championship. At the time, Bruno Henrique received a yellow card and was later sent off in a match against Santos, valid for the 31st round. Unusual actions in betting houses raised suspicions and, after investigations, the Federal Police came across the names of family members and people close to the athlete, who will now be formally investigated.

Flamengo basketball faces another international challenge. Starting this Thursday (September 18), in Singapore, the club competes in the FIBA Intercontinental Club Cup , considered the world championship of the sport. Flamengo TV will be the sole broadcaster of the games throughout Brazil, bringing every play of the competition to the Red-Black Nation, which brings together the continental champions in pursuit of the ultimate club basketball title.
João Guilherme will be the narrator, while Duda Machado, a Flamengo basketball legend, will provide commentary. Emerson Santos, also known as Emershow, will be reporting from the court, directly from Singapore, reinforcing Flamengo TV's exclusive coverage.
FlaBasquete debuts this Thursday against NBA G League United (USA) at 6 a.m. (Brasília time). On September 19, also at 6 a.m., the team faces the Illawarra Hawks of Australia . The decisive games are scheduled for the weekend.
Flamengo has already conquered the world twice. In 2014, the team defeated Maccabi Haifa of Israel 90-77 at Maracanãzinho , featuring players like Marcelinho Machado, Marquinhos, Laprovittola, and Olivinha.

That's what will happen with Arrascaeta, probably with a renewal before the due date," the director added.
In recent months, Flamengo has prioritized players with contracts that expire in December 2025. Cases like Erick Pulgar, who extended his contract until December 2028 , and Guillermo Varela, who extended his contract until December 2027 in August, reinforce this policy. The early negotiation with Arrascaeta, therefore, demonstrates the Uruguayan's importance to the squad.
