The agreement reached with Libra and Globo for the TV rights to the Brazilian Championship took center stage at the start of Flamengo's season due to disagreements between the club's former and current managers. The reasons are financial, political and business-oriented . Since the campaign, Bap's new board has been pointing out Flamengo's potential financial losses with the TV rights to the Brasileirão. The current president was a fervent critic of the deal made by Libra — despite having approved the contract when he was a board member — and tried to review the paperwork with the league's partners.
Flamengo highlights financial loss
In February, at the first meeting of Libra directors after the new red-black management, the president gave this mission to Marcelo Campos Pinto, an executive who
worked in the media market on the other side of the counter, with years at Grupo Globo. The representative, however, was unable to establish a discussion with the directors of other clubs and began to work with the objective of improving the current agreement collectively. People present at the meeting who were interviewed by the report guarantee that the atmosphere was cordial.
Even so, the directors of the other Libra clubs are aware of and prepared for Flamengo's dissatisfaction with the division of the TV rights for the Brasileirão. After all, the Rio de Janeiro club "lost" almost R$70 million from one contract to another, according to projections, due to the end of the guaranteed minimum pay-per-view transfer. The new agreement, in addition to the fixed quota, provides for bonuses for performance and audience.
Political fight between two versions behind the scenes
The strikes are defended by Flamengo's former management. President Rodolfo Landim and vice-president Gustavo Oliveira were the two who led the relationship with Libra and Globo before the election last December. The previous management does not see the agreement as ideal, but points to the home team law (which gave commercial rights to clubs only for home games) and the need for unity with other clubs as arguments in favor of accepting the values and "making the pie bigger" in the medium or long term.
The current board of directors is criticizing the fact that Flamengo was the "only one to lose money" in the negotiations. With experience in the media market (he was CEO of Sky), Bap was upset about not being included in the negotiations. The current president believes that he could have contributed with a bolder and more profitable business model, but he is criticized by opponents for, in theory, wanting Flamengo to "go it alone".
When he was a board member in 2024, the current president was a staunch opponent of the agreement, but voted in favor when the contract was submitted for approval by Flamengo's Deliberative Council. His vote and moderate stance in his speech confused opponents and even allies who are not part of the director's inner circle. At the time, Bap was enigmatic: "It's a strategy." The discussion returned to the agenda last week, when the current administration presented its accounts to board members.
Are international rights a laboratory?
All this dissatisfaction becomes an argument to justify Flamengo's attitude of being a lone wolf in the sale of the international TV rights for the Brazilian Championship. On the other hand, the other 39 clubs in series A and B have agreed to go to the market as a group. The decision has not yet been announced, but it is being aligned behind the scenes.
In an attempt to make this dream a reality, the new Bap management launched Flamengo TV, with the goal of becoming a media powerhouse. The club hired renowned communicators and promised a programming schedule for fans. The intention is to present a product to the market that goes beyond the 19 games that the club has available to sell. The president has spoken publicly about the subject in recent weeks.
— The world is changing very quickly. I come from the media market and I understand that this is a natural thing. There are contracts that are in force, but as these contracts change, this will change. The reason we want to keep the international and betting rights, to sell them separately, has everything to do with the new Flamengo TV — explained Bap.

O Flamengo começou a caminhada na Copa Intercontinental com o pé direito. A vitória por 2 a 1 sobre o Cruz Azul (MEX) garantiu a classificação à semifinal e abriu o caminho para mais um objetivo internacional. Agora, o elenco volta as atenções ao duelo decisivo contra o Pyramids (EGI) e a atividade tem uma novidade importante: o retorno de Pedro.
Nesta quinta-feira (11), Filipe Luís comandou o primeiro trabalho voltado especificamente para a semifinal. O grupo rubro-negro se apresentou no CT Al Erssal às 16h no horário local, 10h em Brasília, iniciando a preparação para encarar os egípcios e contando com a volta do camisa 9 em atividades com o grupo.
A presença do Flamengo no Intercontinental vem diretamente do título da Copa Libertadores. No dia 29 de novembro, em Lima, no Peru, a equipe derrotou o Palmeiras por 1 a 0 e assegurou o direito de disputar o torneio da Fifa.
Após eliminar o Cruz Azul, o Flamengo enfrenta o Pyramids neste sábado (13), às 14h (horário de Brasília), no Estádio Ahmed bin Ali, em Doha. A Rede Globo transmite a partida em TV aberta, enquanto SporTV, GETV (YouTube) e CazéTV também exibem o confronto.
Se avançar novamente, o Flamengo terá pela frente o PSG (FRA) na grande decisão da Copa Intercontinental. A final está marcada para 17 de dezembro, às 14h (horário de Brasília), no mesmo Estádio Ahmed bin Ali, mesmo estádio da partida diante do Cruz Azul.

Campeão brasileiro em 2025, o Flamengo garantiu R$ 53,6 milhões pela conquista, valor previsto no contrato firmado entre a Libra, bloco do qual o clube faz parte, e a Rede Globo. A quantia corresponde à parcela destinada ao desempenho na competição, naturalmente mais alta para o primeiro colocado.
A campanha que rendeu o título foi sólida: 79 pontos, três acima do vice-líder Palmeiras, com 23 vitórias, dez empates e apenas cinco derrotas. O time ainda terminou com o melhor ataque (78 gols), a defesa menos vazada (27) e o maior saldo disparado (51), fechando o torneio com 69% de aproveitamento.
Encerrado o Brasileirão, a Libra reuniu o montante total de R$ 1,17 bilhão, aplicou os descontos previstos e chegou a R$ 1,02 bilhão para distribuição entre nove clubes do bloco: Flamengo, Atlético-MG, Bahia, Vitória, São Paulo, Palmeiras, Santos, Red Bull Bragantino e Grêmio. Apenas 30% do valor total é destinado ao desempenho esportivo, cerca de R$ 306,4 milhões.
Dentro desse percentual, existe um escalonamento por posição na tabela. Em um cenário com 20 participantes, o campeão teria direito a 9,5%. Porém, como somente nove integrantes da Libra entraram na divisão, foi necessário recalcular a proporção. Com esse ajuste, o Flamengo passou a ter direito a 17,49% da fatia de desempenho, chegando aos R$ 53,6 milhões. Os números foram divulgados pelo jornalista Rodrigo Mattos.

Após o empate do Paris Saint-Germain com o Athletic Bilbao pela Champions League, Luis Enrique comentou sobre a possibilidade de enfrentar o Flamengo na final da Copa Intercontinental. Questionado sobre sua preferência para a decisão no Catar, o treinador espanhol foi direto: prefere não encarar o time brasileiro.

Durante entrevista à TNT Sports após o empate e, Luis Enrique explicou que conhece bem o elenco rubro-negro e o nível de competitividade apresentado na Copa do Mundo de Clubes, enquanto ainda não teve contato aprofundado com o Pyramids, campeão africano. “Eu prefiro o Pyramids, que não conheço, mas que seguramente também pode nos vencer. Mas a minha preferência não é o Flamengo, isso para mim está claro”, afirmou o técnico.
Luis Enrique detalhou que a comissão técnica do PSG acompanha o Flamengo desde o meio do ano, avaliando desempenho e características do elenco. Segundo o espanhol, o time brasileiro reúne peças experientes, qualidade técnica e um treinador que potencializa o grupo — fatores que tornam qualquer confronto mais complexo.
“Sim, temos visto. Não analisamos profundamente, mas conhecemos, vimos eles na Copa do Mundo de Clubes no verão passado. É uma grande equipe, com jogadores de qualidade e experiência e um grande treinador”, completou.
Antes de focar totalmente na Copa Intercontinental, o Paris entra em campo contra o Metz, pelo Campeonato Francês, neste sábado (13), às 15h (de Brasília). Após o triunfo sobre o Cruz Azul, Jorginho foi questionado sobre a possibilidade de encarar o PSG na final. O volante, um dos destaques do time, adotou discurso cauteloso e reforçou que o foco deve estar exclusivamente no duelo contra o Pyramids.
“Acredito que não, porque hoje foi mais uma prova que quem está aqui merece, e com certeza todos são equipes qualificadas. A gente precisa conhecer bem o Pyramids, que com certeza vai ser um jogo difícil. E a gente precisa estar preparado para, sim, depois pensar no próximo”, afirmou.
O volante recebeu cartão amarelo na estreia, mas o lance não gera suspensão automática. Assim, Jorginho poderá atuar sem preocupação extra na semifinal e, caso avance, também em uma possível final contra o Paris Saint-Germain.
