In recent years, Flamengo has invested more in the youth categories and the results have been visible. As is the case with young Caio Barone, from under-17, who measures 1.96 m, and in an interview with FlaTv, he revealed a fact that shocked everyone in the studio. According to the young man, at the age of 10, when he was sent into goal, his height was already 1.70 m. In other words, he was very tall and very unusual for his age.
In this Wednesday's edition (04) of the program Garotos do Ninho, on FlaTv, Caio says, between laughs, that he was already quite tall. Therefore, he ended up being placed in the goalkeeper position. It's worth remembering that the archer was called up to the Brazilian under-17 team.
“I don't have much idea, but I think that at 10 years old I was already 1.70 m. He was already big for his age, well above average. Everything went well, I ended up becoming a goalkeeper”, says the archer in an interview with the program Garotos do Ninho, on FlaTv, he was called up to the Brazilian national team in the category.
Caio Barone also says that he wasn't always a goalkeeper. At 10 years old, the young man tried out at Santos as a defender. However, the Santos team identified potential in him to play in goal. Certainly, his height caught attention and that was what made Santos put him under the goalposts. P>
“When I was ten years old, I went to try out at Santos as a defender, first-hand. The week I went for the test, the goalkeeper had just left, they needed one more, they only had two. At first, I didn't want to become a goalkeeper, no. At first we don't want to become a goalkeeper, but then we start to like the position and love what we're doing”, says Caio Barone.
Caio also talked about how he arrived at Flamengo. He said that before he was sent away from Santos, he already received few chances. The young man says that he was lucky to be found by Red Black. The club saw the archer in action and was delighted.
“The week the coach told me to become a goalkeeper was the week of goalkeeper day. I spent two months working hard as a goalkeeper, I had never trained in goal. I was able to be happy and be approved at Santos. When I was 11, I went to the city of Santos. I spent two years there, but it wasn't as opportunistic. Flamengo saw me and I arrived here at 13 years old. I've been here for four or five years now. I got a penalty against PSG”, he concludes.
