Flamengo is confirmed in the first edition of the FIFA Club World Cup with 32 teams, which will take place in 2025, in the United States. Champion of the Libertadores 2022, Rubro-Negro is one of four South Americans already confirmed in the event, along with Palmeiras, Fluminense and River Plate. This Wednesday (15), FIFA confirmed the first Women's Club World Cup for January and February 2026.

The highest football entity had announced at the end of 2022 its intention to hold a Women's Club World Cup. The competition was confirmed at the 74th FIFA Congress, taking place in Bangkok, Thailand. According to the entity, there will be 16 clubs from all continents. The classification criteria or the number of clubs per continent were not announced.

Flamengo, Brazilian champion in 2016, can dream of participating in the first FIFA Women's Club World Cup. If the entity adopts the same criteria as the men's competition, Rubro-negro could qualify by ranking or by winning the women's Libertadores. Palmeiras, champion in 2022, and Corinthians, champion in 2017. 2019, 2021 and 2023, are the best-rated teams to have places.

FIFA's idea is to hold the FIFA Club World Cup every four years. In the same way as for men, the entity also plans to hold an intercontinental tournament in the years in which the World Cup will not be held, starting in 2027.

The FIFA congress made other decisions regarding women's football. In contractual matters, the entity decided to extend the entity's rights and protections to adoptive parents and non-biological mothers. Furthermore, FIFA recognized the social, physical and psychological dimensions of work carried out by players who face severe menstruation and pregnancy complications.
