After hanging up the boots, Filipe Luís was unable to stay away from the field. Now away from the pitch, the former full-back works as coach of Flamengo's under-17 team and has been collecting good results. In a podcast interview with his former red-black teammate, Diego Ribas, the coach stated that he was “in love” with his work.
“I’m in love with what I’m doing. I knew it was a big change after stopping playing and I knew what I wanted, it was well directed. Nothing took me away from that focus. But I didn't know there were so many hours of work. These days I went to bed with my laptop at 10:30 pm and was analyzing the game: 'Why didn't this guy touch the ball here?', began Filipe Luís, on Diego Ribas' podcast, ex-Flamengo.
< “But it’s really cool. It was a choice to start at the base. I tell the boys there that I love them. They bring me a lot of joy. They play pure football, get along well and form a group that loves to work. This gives pleasure to a coach who wants to start knowing that the squad enjoys working. I'm in the place where I wanted to be. I'm happy, at the club I love, with my family in the city they love to live in and Flamengo giving me all the support to do my job. It’s a paradise”, concluded the former player.
Back to the professional
After the third consecutive game without victory, the red and black squad performed again this Monday (29), at the Ninho do Urubu Training Center. Under Tite's command, the players will have daily activities focusing on this Wednesday's match (1), against Amazonas for the Copa do Brasil.
Therefore, in addition to this Monday's training, the Flamengo squad also trains on Tuesday (30). On Wednesday, it concentrates on Ninho do Urubu, from where it leaves directly for Maracanã, the venue for the match.

When Bayern Munich (GER) opened a 2-0 lead over Flamengo in less than ten minutes last Sunday (29), many fans feared a repeat of the Brazilian National Team's traumatic 7-1 defeat against Germany in 2014. But the Red-Blacks reacted, balanced the game and gave the European giant a hard time, despite the defeat and elimination in the Club World Cup . For commentator Paulo Cobos, from ESPN, the performance of the Rio de Janeiro team was a true contrast to the National Team's embarrassment 11 years ago.

“ Flamengo taught the Brazilian team how to be great against the Germans. Ball, character, good management... Flamengo had all of this against Bayern, which is five times richer . The dream is over, but the feeling is different. Rubro-Negro proved that the gap to the European giants is much smaller than that shown by Brazil in the 2014 World Cup,” said Cobos.
The journalist also highlighted that Flamengo had more possession of the ball and had more shots than Bayern, despite the mistakes in the game: “ They made silly mistakes and were overconfident in the game . But, for a good part of the game, they faced the opponent as equals. Very different from the cowardice and tactical delay of the National Team in 2014”, he added, also mentioning the club's restructuring work:
“Flamengo has been working for over a decade to get where it is. It has faced difficulties, but it has done its homework that many big Brazilian clubs do not . Today it is organized, has its finances in order and has the power to invest. It is still not possible to beat the European giants, but it is possible to return with its head held high,” he concluded.
HOW WAS THE GAME?
Flamengo started the match nervously, and Bayern took advantage : Erick Pulgar scored an own goal, and Harry Kane extended the lead in the first few minutes. But the Red-Blacks responded with Gerson, who unleashed a bomb into Neuer's corner to reduce the deficit. Still in the first half, Goretzka scored the third for the Germans.
In the second half, Flamengo kept fighting and got closer to the scoreboard with Jorginho . However, a mistake in the ball release cost them dearly, and Harry Kane sealed the German victory: 4-2. Despite the defeat, the Rio team finished the game with more possession and more shots.
RETURN TO BRAZIL
After participating in the World Cup, the red-black delegation returns to Rio de Janeiro this Tuesday (1st). The squad will have a few days off and will return on Saturday (5), starting preparations for the rest of the season, focusing on the Brasileirão, Libertadores and Copa do Brasil.

Eliminated by Bayern Munich (GER) last Sunday (29), Flamengo said goodbye to the Club World Cup and now turns its attention to the transfer market. With the transfer window underway, the club will need to deal with harassment from other teams regarding players in the current squad , such as Léo Ortiz, Gerson, Wesley, Arrascaeta and Wallace Yan.
Among the names closest to a departure is Gerson . Zenit (RUS) officially notified that it intends to pay the termination fee of 25 million euros (around R$ 160 million) to sign the midfielder, who is also the club's captain. With that, the “Joker” is in the final stages of negotiations to transfer to Russian football.
ITALY KEEPING AN EYE ON MENGÃO'S DEFENSE
Another player targeted by European clubs is Wesley. The right-back was closely watched by directors during the World Cup and attracted interest from giants such as Juventus (ITA), Roma (ITA), Inter Milan (ITA) and Manchester City (ENG) , among others.
Juventus, by the way, also has Léo Ortiz on its radar, although interest so far has been limited to observation. In Mexico, Cruz Azul is monitoring Arrascaeta's situation and, according to director José Boto, there have already been talks with representatives of the Rio de Janeiro club . In England, Wolverhampton have shown interest in Wallace Yan, but have not yet formalized an offer.
REINFORCEMENT ON THE WAY
While some players may leave, Flamengo is also moving to strengthen its squad. The club is close to finalizing the signing of Colombian midfielder Jorge Carrascal , who was at Dynamo Moscow (RUS). The deal involves a fixed fee of 12 million euros (R$76.9 million) and another 2 million euros in bonuses for goals (R$12.8 million).

Flamengo's elimination against Bayern Munich (GER) served as a lesson for Domènec Torrent. Former Flamengo coach and currently in charge of Monterrey (MEX), the Spaniard mentioned the game last Sunday (29) and praised the attitude of Filipe Luís' team, on the eve of the duel against Borussia Dortmund (GER), this Tuesday (1st), for the round of 16 of the Club World Cup.

“I’m not going to explain (our tactic to stop Borussia Dortmund). We know what we want to do and how we want to do it, but German teams always compete very well, very strongly. And when we have to suffer, we have to defend with all our strength,” he added.
DOMÈNEC IN THE WORLD CUP
Signed by Monterrey on the eve of the World Cup, in May this year, Domènec led the team to the round of 16 , after finishing second in a difficult group, which included Inter Milan (ITA) and River Plate (ARG), who were eliminated from the competition.
Now, the challenge is against Borussia Dortmund , this Tuesday (1st), at 10 pm (Brasília time). If they qualify, Monterrey will face the winner of Real Madrid (ESP) x Juventus (ITA), in the quarterfinals.
PASSAGE THROUGH FLAMENGO
Despite not having completed the 2020 Brasileirão campaign, Dome has the competition title on his resume . The coach was in charge of the team for 18 rounds and, in total, led Flamengo in 24 matches: there were 14 wins, four draws and six defeats.
