While Flamengo's main squadprepares to embark towards the United States, where the 2025 pre-season will take place, the first game of the year is approaching. Next Sunday (12), Rubro-Negro takes the field with an alternative team against Boavista, for the Campeonato Carioca, to try to maintain an unbeaten run that has lasted 18 years.

The last one The first time Flamengo lost the first game of a season was in 2006, in a duel that ended 1-0 for Nova Iguaçu. Since then, the retrospective brings 16 wins and two draws — interestingly, both against Macaé, in 2015 and 2020. Check out the full list at the end of the article.

In the last defeat, in game valid for the first round of the Guanabara Cup, Mais Querido entered the field with an alternative team formed by Getúlio Vargas, Léo Matos, Marlon and André Lima; Thiago Campos, Robson, Célio Júnior and Rômulo; Vinícius Pacheco, Fabiano Oliveira and Gilmar. The coach was the idol Adílio. With Zinho still on the field, Nova Iguaçu won with a goal from Deni, scored 11 minutes into the second half.

O Carioca 2006, inclusive, is worth a separate explanation. Despite being the year in which Flamengo was champion of the Copa do Brasil over rival Vasco, the State brought an unimaginable performance by current red-and-black standards.

In the first round, the Guanabara Cup, Flamengo fell into Group A, with Americano, Cabofriense, Nova Iguaçu, Fluminense and Portuguesa. And Rubro-Negro only won one game, precisely the last one, against Americano. With defeats to Nova Iguaçu and Cabofriense, as well as draws with Portuguesa and Fluminense, Mais Querido did not even qualify for the semifinals (the places went to Americano and Cabofriense).

In the Cup Rio, the story was no different. In six games, Flamengo won only once, 3-2 over Botafogo. Defeats to Madureira and Vasco, as well as draws with Friburguense, America and Volta Redonda, meant that the team did not qualify for the semi-finals once again.

It's worth highlighting that this was a terrible State for three of the big four. The only one to manage to pass the stage at any time was Botafogo, who became champions against Madureira. Vasco and Fluminense, as well as Flamengo, failed to qualify for any semi-finals.

Retrospect < /p>

From then on, however, Flamengo never lost in the first game of each season. Below, MundoBola Flamengo highlighted each debut that Rubro-Negro has made since then. The only game that was not valid for the Campeonato Carioca was against Atlético-MG, in 2016, in the now extinct Primeira Liga.

Gil, ex-Corinthians, when declaring retirement: "the only thing missing was playing for Flamengo"

A STRIKING CAREER AT CORINTHIANS

Gil built a remarkable relationship with Corinthians , a club he played for twice. Between 2013 and 2016, he was a key player in Tite's squad, crowning the period with the 2015 Brazilian Championship title . He returned to Corinthians in 2019 and, during his second stint, reached the impressive milestone of 400 appearances for the club.

AN UNFULFILLED DREAM

Despite his solid history at Corinthians, Gil revealed a dream he never fulfilled: playing for Flamengo . " I did everything I wanted, the only thing missing was playing for Flamengo . Not everything is perfect. I'm grateful for the career I've built," he declared.

LAST EXPERIENCE FOR SANTOS

The final chapter of his career was at Santos, where he played in the 2024 Série B. The defender played an important role in the club's promotion to Série A , but lost his place in the squad and terminated his contract in August of the same year. Shortly thereafter, he decided to hang up his boots.

Having also played in Chinese football and enjoyed a solid career in Brazil, Gil ended his career as one of the greatest defenders of the last decade , recognized for his consistency, physical strength, and leadership on the field. In total, the former player appeared in 865 matches, scoring 43 goals and contributing 15 assists.
