In 1987, the Brazilian Football Championship was marked by one of the biggest controversies in the history of national sport. The title dispute between Flamengo and Sport still generates intense debates, dividing opinions between fans, journalists and jurists. Paulo Vinícius Coelho (PVC), in an interview with AltTabet on UOL Esporte, brought this controversy to light, proposing a conciliatory view on the topic.

PVC states that, despite considering the Flamengo the legitimate champion of 1987, believes that the title must be shared with Sport. According to him, “The legitimate champion of 1987 is Flamengo, but I think it has to be shared.” He argues that this is not an isolated situation in Brazilian football and that the practice of dividing titles is not unprecedented.

FLAMENGO HAS A NEW INVESTMENT

The confusion began with the creation of the Copa União , organized by the Clube dos 13, which brought together the main clubs in Brazil, while the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) organized another parallel championship. Flamengo won the Copa União, while Sport won the title in the tournament organized by the CBF. The controversy intensified when the CBF declared Sport as Brazilian champion, a decision that was later confirmed by the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

PVC highlights that “the legal champion that the STF has already judged and understands is o Sport”, highlighting the legal legitimacy of the Pernambuco team’s achievement. However, he also recognizes the sporting value of Flamengo's victory in the Copa União, justifying his proposal to share the title.

Coach Tite is in a delicate situation at Flamengo. After the elimination in the Libertadores against Peñarol (URU), the coach's continuity began to be discussed behind the scenes at the club. Because of this, part of the board is trying to convince Filipe Luís to take command of the main team until the end of 2024.

However, Filipe Luís believes that it is not yet the ideal time to take on this responsibility. The former player currently coaches Flamengo's under-20 team, where he has already won the Copa Rio, against Vasco, and the World Cup, with a comeback victory over Olympiacos (GRE) at Maracanã. The information was released by journalist Paulo Vinicius Coelho.

“ Flamengo's management is trying to convince Filipe Luís to be the coach until the end of the year. No one will confirm this information, but no one has denied it. But Filipe Luís wouldn't want to take over, precisely because of the scenario of how things are happening. In other words, Tite is being raffled off in a way that is not appropriate for a coach of his size”, said PVC on the program 'De Primeira', on Uol.

MEETING TO EVALUATE TITE'S WORK TITE

According to the portal 'Coluna do Fla', Flamengo's board of directors scheduled a meeting for the weekend, with the aim of evaluating the team's recent results under Tite's command. Despite this, the possibility of dismissal before the confrontation with Corinthians, in the semi-final of the Copa do Brasil, is practically ruled out.

FILIPE LUÍS TALKS ABOUT TAKING UP THE MAIN CAST

After winning the Under-20 World Cup title, on August 24, Filipe Luís commented on the possibility of coaching Flamengo's main team. The former full-back highlighted that he still needs to prepare more and gain the fans' trust in his new role before taking this step.

“The responsibility is different today (in the professional world), it largely depends on the result , not my performance. I feel the weight of work, but I'm doing what I love most, what I want and I feel increasingly prepared. I started in the right place, which is at the base. I've been wrong, I've been right. The player was left behind and I have to win the affection of the fans on the other side, as a coach. If I manage Flamengo in the future, I want to be as prepared as possible. But I still have to prepare myself”, said the U20 coach.

For the most optimistic Flamengo fan, who still believes in the Brasileirão title, Saturday (28) will be crucial in the search for the next championship. This is because the first two placed enter the field for the 28th round. In Campinas, Palmeiras faces Atlético-MG, while, in Brasília, Botafogo hosts Grêmio. Flamengo only plays on Sunday (29), against Athletico-PR.

GAMES THIS SATURDAY

Palmeiras x Atlético-MG, 6:30 p.m., Estádio Brinco de Ouro da Princesa, Campinas

Botafogo x Grêmio, 9 p.m., Estádio Mané Garrincha, Brasília

None of the home teams will play in their usual stadium. Palmeiras chose to play at Brinco de Ouro, in Campinas, due to Eric Clapton's concert at Allianz Parque, on Sunday (29). Botafogo, in turn, reached an agreement with Grêmio for the match to take place in Brasília, in solidarity with the club from Rio Grande do Sul, which faced difficulties playing at the Porto Alegre Arena in the first round, due to the floods in Rio Grande do Sul .

There is a great possibility that Atlético-MG will enter the field with a reserve team. The Minas Gerais club played in the middle of the week, beating Fluminense in the quarter-finals of the Libertadores, and faces Vasco, on Wednesday (02), in the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil. Palmeiras, on the other hand, is fully focused on the Brasileirão, after being eliminated from the Copa do Brasil by Flamengo and the Libertadores by Botafogo.

Botafogo, driven by its classification over the São Paulo in the Libertadores, arrives confident to face Grêmio. However, the team from Rio Grande do Sul is on alert, after losing at home to Criciúma and remaining just three points above the relegation zone.

SITUATION OF THE BRASILEIRÃO

Botafogo leads the Brasileirão with 56 points, followed closely by Palmeiras, with 53. If John Textor's team loses and Palmeiras win, Abel Ferreira's team takes the lead on goal difference. Fortaleza, which faces Cuiabá on Sunday (29), is in third place with 52 points, while Flamengo closes the G4 with 45 points and one game less.

FLAMENGO de Brasília), at Maracanã, for the 28th round of the Brasileirão. After the elimination in the Libertadores, the expectation is that the audience at the stadium will be one of the lowest of the year.
