Eliza Ramos, Flamengo's judoka, is returning to the mat with great expectations after having knee problems and being out for nine months. FlaTV produced special content about the athlete, who already won a bronze medal at the under-21 World Cup in 2021.

In the interview, the judoka told about the scare. Highlighting that she had to undergo surgery. Eliza admitted that she was very scared, but explained how she went through the procedure. She also said that it was her first surgery and that she tried to be positive and embrace everything as if it were new.

“I felt very scared from the beginning when I found out I was going to have the operation. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to be as active as I always was. It was my first surgery. I was afraid of the procedure. I tried to be positive and embrace everything as if it were new, but positive. First time I had surgery, ok, everything went well. Let's go to the next one”, she says.

Eliza also brought the dates of the events and remembers that she felt good. That's why she couldn't believe it when the doctor said she would have to undergo surgery: “I got injured training on January 8th. On January 12th, the club doctor told me that I was going to have to operate on my knee. My world collapsed, it was horrible. During training I felt incredible pain. I was already feeling better when he said it, I thought it was a lie. ‘I’m fine, strong, my knee is fine’. I only really believed it when he did the last test. I had surgery on February 15th. My story began again there,” she says. TECHNICAL WAS CRUCIAL IN THE RECOVERY

The judoka was also very grateful to Vinícius Morato, Taz, coach of FlaJudô. She says that he was essential in her recovery: “I always say that God put Taz in my life. He and sensei Murilo were in the room with me. If it were up to me, I wouldn't give up, but it would be very difficult. They didn't let go of my hand. The sensei was with me all these months taking care of my performance on the mat, and the other professionals, off the mat. He put up with all my feelings, emotions. Anger, sadness, happiness. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have gone through this phase so well”, he explains.

Marcelo also told the details of the process and says what he said to motivate the athlete: “'It's just the surgery, you It still has both legs. You were born to shine, you can lift your head and come train. Who are you to give up, this is not your place. You are going through this to be strong and earn your place in history. You will be limited in the leg, but judo is not just about the leg. Let's train your hand'”, he says, before concluding:

“We climbed little by little, without giving up. It was a milestone, the first time he stood up, the first time he wore a kimono, he was able to move. I was able to see it all up close. Always saying that when this is over, you won't be a girl anymore. It will be a woman. You will no longer be an athlete, you will be a warrior.

DREAM FOR THE 2028 OLYMPICS

The judoka also commented on her focus for 2024. Eliza has several challenges ahead of her, but wants to prepare for the Olympic trials: “This year I am focused on getting back to my competitive rhythm, but my focus is on the trials for the 2028 Olympics. Along the way I will have other very important events. Senior Brazilian, but the Los Angeles project too”, she says.
