Records of cases of racism in football grew by around 39% in one year, according to the 10th Report on Racial Discrimination in Football, released this Thursday (26), at the CBF headquarters, in Rio de Janeiro. The 2023 edition of the document was released this Thursday (26), in the CBF auditorium, by the Observatory of Racial Discrimination in Football. The work was carried out in partnership with the CBF and the Study Group on Sports and Discrimination at UFRGS (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul).
According to the Observatory, 136 cases of racism were registered in 2023 , an increase of 38.77% compared to the previous year, when 98 incidents were recorded. Since 2016, there has been an annual increase, with the exception of 2020, due to the new coronavirus pandemic. In relation to 2014, the first year of monitoring carried out by the Observatory, incidents increased by 444% (from 25 to 136).
"The increase in reported cases in relation to the previous season reinforces the severity of the problem and the persistent challenges, which require, more than ever, innovative, effective and continued actions, in order to break with passivity and historical complicity with racism", stated the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, the first black person to command the CBF in more than 100 years of the institution's history.
“We believe that the battle against racism, in its different forms, cannot be won in isolation. Only cooperation between the different agents that make up our society can guarantee future generations a world in which respect and dignity are universal values, and not exceptions”, added Ednaldo Rodrigues.
“This data is not just bad. It also presents an important evolution, which is greater awareness among fans and players. If we have more complaints, it is because Brazilian society is more attentive to understanding what racism is and its different forms of expression”, added the founder and executive director of the Observatory, Marcelo Carvalho.
The report also offers a description and developments of each case and highlights others related to other types of discrimination and violence, such as sexual abuse, harassment, fatphobia, support for Nazism and politics.
INCREASE IN CUTTING< p>Over the years, the Report increased its analysis to other types of discrimination, such as LBGTphobia, machismo and xenophobia, to other sports and to incidents involving Brazilian athletes abroad.
In total, The document on Racial Discrimination in Football also shows an increase of almost 7% in cases of discrimination reported in relation to the previous season.
From this expanded scope, 250 discriminatory incidents were identified, 222 of which occurred in Brazil and 28 with Brazilian athletes abroad. 222 occurred in football and 28 in other sports.

Flamengo will have an important novelty on the field this Sunday (31), when it faces Grêmio in the 22nd round of the Brasileirão . The club will now display the name of Betano, the new master sponsor of the Manto Sagrado, in the center of its uniform .
Until then, the sports betting company had already signed a contract with Rubro-Negro, but the shirt was only being used with the phrase “A Nação Confia” , in reference to the agreement that had not yet been officially activated.
The partnership between Flamengo and Betano runs until 2028 and provides for R$268.5 million per season. With bonuses included for winning titles and achieving goals, the contract could reach R$1 billion over the life of the contract .
In addition to the uniform display, the company is preparing a grand celebration at Maracanã Stadium to mark the official start of the partnership. 3D mosaics are planned in the stands and a concert by singer Alexandre Pires , promising a special atmosphere for the brand's debut at Manto Sagrado.
Flamengo returns to the field this Sunday (31), at 4 pm (Brasília time), against Grêmio, at Maracanã. The match will be broadcast on Rede Globo, on open TV (except for São Paulo), and on Premiere , on pay-per-view.

This Saturday, Roma defeated Pisa 1-0 in a Serie A match. The standout performer was Argentine Matías Soulé, who scored the winning goal. The match also featured a strong red-and-black presence : Wesley was once again a starter for Roma, while Lorran, on loan from Flamengo , watched the match from the stands.
Recently loaned by Flamengo to Pisa, Lorran was present at the stadium to observe his future teammates . Before kickoff, the youngster participated in the warm-up on the sidelines, already wearing the colors of his new club, and even greeted Wesley, his former teammate at Ninho do Urubu.
The first half featured heavy marking, numerous fouls, and few clear-cut scoring chances. The teams went into halftime with the score tied , in a game more physical than technical. After the break, Roma showed more aggression.
In the 55th minute, Soulé received a good pass, beat the marker and finished with class to open the scoring: 1-0. Shortly after, in the 61st minute, the Argentine found the net again , but the move was reviewed by VAR and the second goal was disallowed.
A regular starter, Wesley was a standout at right-back, playing as a winger in Gian Piero Gasperini's system . He proved to be solid in defense and involved in attack, traits that caught the coach's attention while he was still at Flamengo .
With the defeat, Pisa remains with just one point in the standings and returns to action on September 14th against Udinese, again at home. Roma, with six points from two games, faces Torino also on the 14th, at home.
