In 1999, the star experienced the last act of his history at Mais Querido when he participated in a party with girls after defeat to Juventude
|
0This Wednesday (26) Flamengo returns to Caxias do Sul, in Rio Grande do Sul, to face Juventude in the Brasileirão. This confrontation doesn't happen that often in the history of the two teams and it's worth remembering one of them, 25 years ago.
It was in Caxias do Sul that the relationship between Romário and Flamengo came to an end. Younger people may not know, but Baixinho was fired from Rubro-Negro in November 1999, after a 3-1 defeat to Juventude, in the Brasileirão, followed by a visit to the famous Festa da Uva and partying in concentration. The incident marked the troubled end of his time at the Rio club.
Romário arrived at Flamengo in 1995, as the main attraction of the club's centenary. Voted best player in the world and responsible for Brazil's fourth world championship in 1994, Baixinho had the world at his feet and decided to don the Sacred Mantle and return to his beloved Rio de Janeiro. In total, there were 241 games and 204 goals scored. On the field, Shirt 11 did his job. And outside of that, he was the protagonist of a series of confusions. P>
Romário had three spells at Flamengo (1995/96 – 1997 – 1998/99). In the last one, he arrived from Valencia in January 1998 and stayed until the infamous game with Juventude, on November 10, 1999, for the Brasileirão. The biggest star of that generation and hero of the four, Baixinho didn't like to give satisfaction to anyone. And he rarely did. His attitude has always been one of independence and self-confidence, characteristics that both helped and harmed him.
After the 3-1 defeat at Alfredo Jaconi, in which he scored the red-black goal, Romário decided that he would visit the Grape Festival. He took with him full-backs Maurinho and Fábio Baiano and striker Leandro Machado. According to Maurinho's report, in 2023, everyone was free to leave, but some did not respect the time to return. The nighttime getaway ended up becoming one of the most controversial moments in Romário's career.
According to the former Flamengo full-back, the visit to the Festa da Uva did not yield any results. nothing more than a few hugs, smiles and posing for photos. Maurinho assured that nothing much happened that night, but other reports show that it was not quite like that. An article in IstoÉ magazine, on November 24, 1999, revealed that the case was much more serious. The reports at the time showed a scene of parties and excesses that went against the club's rules.
Upon returning to the Reynolds Hotel, the real party began. According to the IstoÉ report, six girls from the nightclubs Madrigal, in Porto Alegre, and Cassino, in Caxias do Sul, were taken to a “private event”. Around ten players from the squad participated in the party. In times before cell phones and social networks, the scandal exploded on the pages of newspapers and on television programs. The repercussion was immediate and negative, affecting the image of everyone involved.
Romário, as expected, did not deny that he participated in the party. Away from the group that stayed in Rio Grande do Sul to play a selective Copa Libertadores tournament, Baixinho arrived in Rio saying that he had left and that he would continue leaving. President Edmundo Santos Silva confirmed the decision to send the star away, unless Romário apologized, which he did not happen. Camisa 11 ended up signing with Vasco, where he stayed until 2002.
From the episode in Caxias do Sul, there was the famous photo with the Queen of the Grape Festival, Fabiana Koch, from Caxias, who graduated as a dentist and was at the center of a request for impeachment by the mayor of Caxias, Flávio Cassina, in 2020. Romário's dismissal from Flamengo marked the end of an era at the club and highlighted the complexities of managing a player with a strong personality and undeniable talent.

The event will be held in Central Park, New York

0FIFA will announce the venues for the 2025 Super Club World Cup this Saturday (28). The announcement will be made during the Global Citizen Festival. The event will be held in Central Park, New York. FIFA did not detail how many cities and stadiums will host the 2025 edition. This will be the first time that the tournament will feature 32 teams.
The Super World Cup will be held between June 15 and July 13, 2025 The competition already has 30 qualified teams, with three Brazilians among them: Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense. Brazil may have one more representative. This is because Atlético-MG and Botafogo are fighting for the last South American place in the competition — the Libertadores title gives them the place. Peñarol [if they win the Libertadores] and Olímpia [if River wins the Libertadores] are the other teams in the running.
The places are divided into: 12 for Europe, six for South America, four for Asia, Africa and North, Central America and the Caribbean, one for Oceania and one for the host country.
In addition to the remaining MLS spot, which has not yet defined its representative, the other available entry belongs to South America. It is destined for the champion of the edition of 2024 of the Libertadores. If River Plate wins the title, it will be transferred to the Conmebol ranking in FIFA and would already have an owner: Olímpia-PAR.

Goalkeeper also regretted the lack of attackers who were injured
|
0Despite an inexplicable error when trying to force a ball into Bruno Henrique, who had his back turned and almost resulted in an opponent's goal, goalkeeper Rossi ended the match fighting for the victory. In a bold act, he advanced to midfield and ventured into the opponent's area, but was unsuccessful. Flamengo drew goalless and was eliminated from the Libertadores by Peñarol at the Campeón del Siglo Stadium.
During the press conference alongside Tite, Rossi was asked if he could promise the red and black fans a title. He said no, but he also refused to give up on the Brasileirão, even with Flamengo 11 points behind the leader, Botafogo, and with only a 1% mathematical chance of winning the championship. To support his optimism, the goalkeeper recalled Botafogo's unexpected drop in performance last year.
“We have very clear objectives, because Flamengo always has to win and that's how it is. Now, we're out, but the year isn't over yet. There are more than 10 games left in the Brazilian Championship. Botafogo has a very big difference, but last year there was too. Now it's time to focus on Sunday's game. In three days we will be on the field again, we have to change our minds for the game against Athletico-PR. And then there is the semi-final of the Copa do Brasil, which is very important, as we are only two games away from the final. So you have to keep working day to day. The Libertadores has already passed, but there are two competitions left for us to compete in”, stated Rossi.
The number 1 also thanked the fans for their support in both Rio de Janeiro and Uruguay, and highlighted that the situation could have It would be different if the team had been more efficient at Maracanã. Furthermore, he regretted the absence of Pedro and other important players for the team.
“For the fans, I can only thank you, firstly, for the support you gave at Maracanã in the first game. We scored early, at 13 in the first half. Afterwards, we had great dominance in both games. Today we are left with this bitter feeling, that we were unable to score a goal to take it to penalties. We even had a possibility, but we have to be self-critical and know that in the final decision we made a little mistake”, declared the goalkeeper, before completing.
“We lost Pedro, Cebola, Viña, Luiz, who are very important players for us. And this also remains in the player's mind. Because when a player sees that a teammate hurts, and hurts badly like it happened, we are also afraid of being out of the season”, he concluded.
Flamengo is now preparing to face Athletico-PR in the Brazilian Championship this Sunday (30th) at 8pm (Brasília time). The team becomes key after being eliminated in the Libertadores and needs to improve its performance to remain in the top positions and remain in the G4.
