On Wednesday night, in Brasília, Santos achieved a fundamental victory against Flamengo. The game was tense and exciting, with surprising twists and turns. In the end, Joaquim had a memorable moment when he hit a beautiful shot from the midfielder, turning the match in favor of Peixe. With this triumph, Santos increased their advantage over the relegation zone to five points, a relief for the fans who have been following a difficult championship.
After the final whistle, coach Marcelo Fernandes shared his impressions about the match and the importance of victory with reporters. He highlighted the motivational conversation he had with his players in the locker room, emphasizing the need for competitiveness and intensity to obtain positive results. "I spoke in the dressing room. Our team will only achieve results if it has the intensity it is having and competes the way it is competing. If we don't compete with intensity, we won't win. It was like that against Inter. And the mirror for this match was the game against Palmeiras. We knew we were going to face a great team, be put under pressure, but we played well. Every time they showed intensity and desire, we got the result", said the coach.
Fernandes also explained the reasons behind of the substitutions he made during the game, relating them to the wear and tear that some players have faced in recent days. In this particular match, he chose to spare Lucas Lima and Dodô, demonstrating care for the health and physical condition of his team. "We took exams yesterday and today at lunchtime, we got the results at 4pm. We are very worried. We suffered a defeat in Porto Alegre (7-1 against Inter), it was very difficult. Then we faced Coritiba on a wet field and Corinthians with a wet field. The players were very overloaded", explained the coach, highlighting his concern for the health of his athletes.
The coach also shared details about his initial tactical strategy for the game. He mentioned that he asked Tomás Rincon to act as a third defender, while also having the flexibility to switch to a 4-4-2 system, with the ability to move the team according to the needs of the moment. According to Fernandes, his team finished the first half with a better performance than the opponent.
"Our initial intention was to have Rincon as the third defender. I spoke to him in this role, from within, to command there behind. We also had the opportunity to play in a 4-4-2 formation, with Nonato and Jean open on the flanks. We had two defenders left at the back and we were a little disorganized. So, we made a change and turned the first half around in a better situation", explained the coach, demonstrating his ability to adapt during the match.
In short, Santos won a crucial victory in the match against Flamengo, maintaining their fight to move away from the relegation zone. Marcelo Fernandes emphasized the importance of his team's intensity and competitiveness, in addition to sharing his concerns about player wear and tear. The tactical strategy used during the game demonstrates the coach's ability to make strategic decisions in real time to obtain the best results for his team.

Estudiantes is already in Rio de Janeiro for the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals against Flamengo , scheduled for Thursday (18), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã. The Argentine team trained at Fluminense's facilities , preparing for the decisive duel.
Coach Eduardo Domínguez tested a more conservative formation, including an extra defensive midfielder in midfield, as a strategy to contain Flamengo's attacks. According to Radio Província 1270 in La Plata, the change could result in only one striker on the field , demonstrating a more solid defensive posture.
Estudiantes ' likely lineup for the clash includes: Muslera; Gómez, Nuñez, Rodríguez, Arzamendia; Ascacibar, Piovi, Amondarain, Medina, Tiago Palacios; Carrillo.
It's not yet clear whether Piovi will play as an extra midfielder or be replaced by Castro . Amondarain, despite being an attacking midfielder, could drop back and act as a third midfielder, depending on Domínguez's strategy in recent training sessions.
With the prospect of a more closed Argentine team, Flamengo, under the command of Filipe Luís, will have to work hard to break down Estudiantes' defense and seek a positive result in the first leg of the Libertadores quarterfinals.
