Carlos Noval, one of the main figures in the management of Flamengo's youth categories, reached an important milestone last Saturday by winning the World Cup in the category, after a thrilling 2-1 victory against Olympiacos. This triumph, in addition to being a significant achievement for the club, carries a deep emotional weight for Noval, who has a historical connection with Flamengo.
Carlos Noval began his career at Flamengo in 2010, taking on the responsibility of leading the club base. His contribution was crucial to the development of talents that today shine on the national and international scene. However, winning the World Cup last Saturday represents the highlight of his career as a youth manager, crowning years of dedication to the club.
The victory against Olympiacos was decided in the final minutes, which brought a mixture of euphoria and nostalgia surfaced for Noval. This feeling is especially significant because it is not the first time that the Noval family has participated in a world victory for Flamengo. In 1981, Renato Noval, Carlos' father, was part of the board that led Flamengo to its first world title, after the iconic 3-0 victory over Liverpool, a feat that became legendary in the club's history.
A LEGACY FOR LIFE
Carlos Noval's relationship with Flamengo is, therefore, a matter of family legacy. Returning to the role of base manager in February, after having held the position between 2010 and 2018, Noval did not hide his excitement at repeating the world achievement that his father celebrated more than four decades ago. For him, this victory is more than a trophy; it is a deep connection with his personal and family history within the club.
In his words after the victory, Noval expressed an emotion that is difficult to describe. He fondly remembered his father, who passed away, and highlighted the importance of having lived this special moment with him in 1981. For Noval, repeating this feat with Flamengo's youth team was a privilege, something he describes as "surreal" and at the same time which is deeply grateful to the club and to God.
