"Be the best in the world". The expression was repeated a few times during the interview with the UOL portal by Vitor Zanelli, vice-president of grassroots, futsal and women's football at Flamengo. In one of the rooms of the structure intended for young people in Ninho do Urubu, the leader admitted that thinking can be utopian, but it is a guide in everyday life. The improvement in the place dedicated to training athletes makes Fla dream of taking all football to CT five and a half years after the tragedy with 10 young people.
"This pain will never go away. The basics of what I try That's what we're going to talk about all our lives, with this respect for the deceased. Yes, many of the athletes who are here today lived with it, many of the professionals. Now, like Flamengo, we will. What we've always done here is think that we want to be the best in the world", said the VP of the base.
The Ninho is divided into two modules, one for the professional and the other for the base. The kids haven't spent the night there for years and the CT only served as a hotel in special cases. Between two gyms, locker room, cafeteria, physiology area, bedrooms and more, what you see today is completely different from what was right at the entrance of the CT in February 2019.
"What we managed to build in In terms of structure and achievements, it's something fantastic. We broke all the club's achievement records, we won titles that the club hadn't had before, we increasingly expanded our brand in international competitions, we sold players and placed athletes in the professionals like never before. done. The most important thing is that we managed to upgrade the entire process."
Flamengo has doubled the number of fields in recent years. Of the initial five, two of them were unusable. Today, there are 10 in total, three of which are synthetic grass and seven are natural grass. The club agreed to purchase two plots of land neighboring the CT to further expand its domains. Three more fields will be built there. Furthermore, the club is already working to build a mini-stadium that will host youth and women's matches.
"We started to put into practice the thought: I want to be the best in the world. To be the best in the world, I have to think about utopia and, to be like this, I need to overcome all these logistical and structural challenges. Our idea is to bring all football together here within our training process, one of the main tools we have. It's futsal. They train at Gávea and Barra. have good logistics for all athletes and all professionals. And the best logistics would be to centralize everything in the same place."
More than R$1 billion in sales
In the last five years, Flamengo sold more than R$1 billion worth of youth athletes. The club projects to have the potential to make over R$1 billion in the next four years.
"When we entered here we were in 15th club in the world in base sales. Today we have risen to 13th. Our objective is to reach between the 10, then five. One step at a time. We want new things. Our main objective is to train players for the professional, but we also want to form winners. b>Without looking the other way
Flamengo has made significant sales in recent years and avoids comparisons with its rivals. Palmeiras, for example, reached R$1 billion in the last five major negotiations involving players revealed in the youth categories: Estêvão, Luis Guilherme, Endrick, Artur and Kevin. Fla, however, has not had other names that generated astronomical amounts since Vini Jr and Lucas Paquetá.
Even so, the club remains strong in sales every year. Names like João Gomes, Matheus França, Rodrigo Muniz and others left for large markets. Richard Ríos, now at Palmeiras, was picked up by Fla, but didn't have a place at the club. Afterwards, he earned R$1.5 million when he transferred to Alviverde.
"I think there are many clubs that do a good job. There are gems and good players in every club. Some have the opportunity to sell, others don't. Some sell well, others poorly. We sell players, yes, and we sell very well."

On Thursday (18), Flamengo and Estudiantes face each other at Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro, in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores . The clash marks the beginning of the fight for a place in the semifinals of the continental tournament.
Coach Eduardo Domínguez previewed the match and expressed confidence in his team's performance against their Brazilian rivals: “It won't be easy, but I feel the team will be ready. We are preparing for this stage, we know the difficulties we will face and those our rivals will face. Whoever puts their ideas into practice best will have the advantage,” said the coach this Sunday (14).
Estudiantes will play the match at home after having a superior campaign in the group stage: they led Group A with 12 points. Flamengo , on the other hand, advanced in second place in Group C, with 11 points, behind LDU-EQU.
In the round of 16, the Argentine team defeated Cerro Porteño 1-0 in Paraguay and confirmed their qualification with a 0-0 draw in Argentina. In this edition of the Libertadores, Estudiantes has three wins and only one loss away from home , precisely against Botafogo in the group stage.
Eduardo Domínguez acknowledged Maracanã's tradition, but highlighted his team's experience playing away from home as an asset. " We know the history of this stadium, and it's good to face that, but we're 11 against 11. We understand how we have to play away from home because we've already done it in this Copa Libertadores. It's about understanding how our opponents work and where we want to push them: to discomfort. We have to be strong, not just physically, but also mentally," the coach assessed.
The player was unable to perform as expected at Mengão after his signing and the Galo coach is a fan of the athlete's football.

Flamengo has already begun planning for next season and confirmed that Matheus Cunha, Pablo, and Cleiton will not have their contracts renewed . All three will leave the club at the end of their contracts. Other names are also on the list of possible departures. Everton Cebolinha, Michael, and Juninho are considered negotiable. The number 11, for example, is attracting interest from Grêmio for 2026.
Another case in question is defensive midfielder Allan. Coach Filipe Luís has prioritized other midfield options, and the player is open to a potential return to Atlético-MG , where he could re-team with Jorge Sampaoli. This information was released by journalist Guilherme Frossard, who covers the Galo news team.
With the transfer window in Brazil closed, any transfer activity will only be possible starting in January . Atlético-MG is closely monitoring the situation and is expected to consider a move. In 2023, Flamengo spent approximately R$43 million to sign Allan from Galo, at the request of Sampaoli, then the club's coach.
At the Rio de Janeiro club, however, Allan didn't replicate his performance in Belo Horizonte. Today, the defensive midfielder occupies a secondary position in Filipe Luís's squad . In the last round of the Brasileirão, Betano faced Grêmio, he sat on the bench for the entire match.
Even with the full focus on winning the Copa Libertadores and the Brasileirão, the board is already working toward 2026. The goal is to reduce the payroll by selling reserves and making room for a major signing in January , under the command of José Boto. Another unresolved issue is the retention of coach Filipe Luís. His current contract expires in December, and the club's first offer was rejected. Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks.

Full-back Jorge, the new signing for Remo under executive director Marcos Braz , is experiencing a comeback in football. In France, with Monaco, Jorge won a French Championship title. Returning to Brazil in 2023, he signed with Fluminense, but suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee , which sidelined him for a long period. He later played for CRB, but played few games, with his last official match taking place on September 15, 2024.
At the press conference held last week, Jorge stated that he was physically recovered and available to coach António Oliveira: “ I am feeling very well physically , clinically too, that is the most important thing, after a very serious injury that I had at Fluminense… Today I feel good.”
Jorge, ex-Flamengo, reveals the reason for his career break: "I wanted to breathe a little"
Jorge revealed that he chose to take some time away from football to reflect and distance himself from stressful environments: “ When I arrived in Rio, after this contract I had at CRB , I decided that I wanted to breathe a little, get away from some environments through football, because I really went through a lot of things that only God knows.”
With extensive national and international experience, Jorge was also called up to the Brazilian national team in 2017 , playing a friendly against Colombia at Botafogo's Nilton Santos Stadium. The full-back arrives at Remo determined to regain his rhythm and contribute to the team.
