Flamengo is ready to take action for the first time in 2024. This Wednesday (17), Mais Querido plays at Arena da Amazônia for the first round of Cariocão. Audax is once again Mengo's debut opponent in a state championship, just as it was in 2023.
Last year, the Saquarema team faced Rubro-Negro at Maracanã in the first game of the Campeonato Carioca. In a truncated duel, Flamengo came out on top. The Boys from the Ninho did the job and beat Audax 1-0. Matheus França, now at Crystal Palace, scored the only goal of the game.
Like Flamengo, Audax also enters the field this Wednesday with many changes in relation to the 2023 team. Only six players remained in the team and will meet Flamengo in Manaus.
On January 12, 2023, Audax was selected with: Leandro; Lucas Mota, Rafael Castro, Thomás Kayck and Kaio Cristian; Keverton, Valderrama and Higor Leite; Clisman, Emerson Urso and Raphael Lopes. Of these 11 starters, only Leandro and Clisman remain at Audax.
João Gabriel, Diego Miticov, Jackson Caucaia and Romarinho are other players from the Saquarema team who were listed in 2023 and will meet Fla again this Wednesday (17) .
Getting to know the rival: Audax has a new coach for Carioca 2024
The change was not just within the four lines. On the edge of the pitch, Audax will also have a new look. Coach Tuca Guimarães, with extensive experience in São Paulo football, took over the team at the beginning of the year.
Audax will be the coach's first challenge in Rio de Janeiro, starting with the Campeonato Carioca. And right away, Tuca faces Flamengo, favorite for the title. Unlike 2023, Rubro-Negro will take to the field with its main team in the first round.
