According to Mattos, the attacker wanted to wear the Cruzeiro shirt

0Forward Michael returned to Flamengoin this transfer window after a three-year spell at Al Hilal, in Saudi Arabia . Although he completed his return to Rubro-Negro, the player initially showed interest in playing for Cruzeiro. The information was revealed by Alexandre Mattos, CEO of the celestial club, during an interview with columnist Jaeci Carvalho, from the newspaper Estado de Minas, on Monday, September 2nd.
WISH TO PLAY FOR CRUZEIRO COMES UP TO FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES
According to Mattos, Michael wanted to wear the Cruzeiro shirt, but negotiations did not progress due to the club's financial situation miner. “Michael wanted it, of course… The manager is the same as Matheus Pereira. Of course there was a survey on both sides. Cruzeiro is now seen as a good payer. Everyone wants to come here. Michael wanted it”, stated the CEO.
However, Mattos highlighted that the amounts involved in the hiring were beyond what Cruzeiro could afford at the moment. “But these are values that deviate from Cruzeiro’s current reality. Who knows, maybe in the future, with the club more balanced and debts paid, we can think about it”, he added.
Michael's career is managed by Eduardo Maluf, the same manager as Matheus Pereira, Cruzeiro's current number 10. During his time at Al Hilal, Michael and Pereira played together, which strengthened the bond between the two players and generated expectations about a possible reunion at the Minas Gerais club.
Michael has been on Cruzeiro's radar since the beginning of businessman Pedro Lourenço's management, who acquired SAF (Sociedade Anônima do Futebol) of the club in April. The intention was for the striker to be the team's "icing on the cake" for the second half. However, the negotiations did not progress beyond the initial interest, leading the player to opt to return to Flamengo.
