Mengão is one of the main multi-sport teams in Brazil and stands out among the clubs that send athletes to defend the country
|
Flamengo confirmed its prominent position in Brazilian swimming by leading the number of athletes called up to represent the country in the five main international competitions of the 2025 season. In total, 18 swimmers from the club were called up to join different national teams, more than any other club in the country.
The calls cover five tournaments : the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore; the Junior World Championships in Otopeni (Romania); the Universiades in Berlin (Germany); the South American Youth Championships in Rio de Janeiro; and the U-15 Gymnasiades in Serbia.
Among Brazilian clubs, only Flamengo and Pinheiros have managed to field athletes in all five national teams . Flamengo leads the overall rankings with 18 players, followed by Pinheiros and Minas Tênis Clube, both with 14.
Although other institutions dominated selections in specific categories—such as Unisanta, the base team for the Singapore World Cup, with five players, and Minas Gerais, a strong performer at the Universiade and Junior World Championships— Flamengo was the standout in the youth categories . The Rio de Janeiro club had the most representatives in both the South American Youth Championship, with nine athletes, and the U-15 Gymnasiade, with five.
The survey, conducted by the Best Swimming website, analyzed a total of 23 clubs that had swimmers selected. After Flamengo, Pinheiros, and Minas, SESI-SP (10 athletes) and Unisanta (8) were the most representative. The significant presence of Flamengo on the national teams, especially among the younger players, reinforces Flamengo's role as a key player in the renewal of national swimming and one of Brazil's main talent pools.

After finding out who their opponents will be in the quarter-finals of the Brasileirão , Flamengo decided this Tuesday (8) which team they will face in the third phase of the Women's Copa do Brasil: Operário-MS, in a single match for a place in the round of 16.
Therefore, the date for the match between Flamengo and Operário-MS will be August 6th, with Mais Querido playing at home. The draw for the matches defined who would be the home team of the match and, as it was drawn first, Mengo won the right to play at home. The dates may still be subject to adjustments by the CBF.
It is worth noting that Flamengo enters the competition in the third phase, where the 16 teams from the Brasileirão Feminino Series A enter the tournament and join the 16 teams that qualified from the second phase. Operário started in the first phase and advanced after beating Mixto-PB and Remo.
The Meninas da Gávea drew 1-1 with Grêmio last Wednesday (18), which was even lamented by striker Vitoria Almeida, in the women's Brasileirão. The Mais Querido remained in fifth place and will now face Palmeiras in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
The first game will be played at Flamengo 's home ground on August 10th at 10:30 am, with the stadium yet to be defined. The return leg is scheduled for the 17th at the same time at Arena Barueri. The games will be broadcast live on TV Globo, TV Brasil and SporTV.
