Flamengo athlete and present in the hall of the greatest in Brazilian sport, Isaquias Queiroz will carry the Brazilian flag at the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The current Olympic champion in canoeing and Raquel Kochhann, from rugby, were chosen by the Committee Olympic Games of Brazil (COB) to represent the delegation in the parade along the River Seine this Friday (26).

Isaquias has four Olympic medals, one gold, two silver and one bronze. The red-and-black is the only athlete from Brazil to win three medals in a single Olympics: two silvers (C1 1000m and C2 1000m) and a bronze (C1 200m) at Rio 2016. He climbed to the highest place on the podium in Tokyo 2020 in the C1 1000m.

“I'm very happy to be able to represent my Bahia, my Northeast, the whole of Brazil. It's going to be an incredible ceremony. Mainly because I can represent my sport, which is still shy in Brazil. Put our little claws out. Certainly, after Paris, people will have more knowledge about this great sport. It's an incredible experience to be able to represent my country. I had the opportunity in Rio to do the closing. But now, being the flag bearer at the opening, it will be something very special”, said Isaquias.

The other chosen one is Raquel Kochhann, captain of the Brazilian Women's Rugby Team, and the COB praised the athlete's journey to Paris. The 31-year-old player retired from the sport in 2022 to treat breast cancer and a knee injury. Now, recovered, she receives the honor of carrying the Brazilian flag at the opening of the Games

“Being an Olympic athlete is difficult. This feeling of being at the front, carrying the flag for the whole world to see at an opening ceremony is something I can't explain in words. My penny hasn't sunk in yet, I think it's only when I'm there to know what I'm going to feel”, commented Raquel Kochhann.

The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games will be this Friday, the 26th, from 2:30 pm (Brasília time). It will be the first time that the event will take place outdoors in the history of the Olympic Games. The broadcast will be made by TV Globo, Sportv, Cazé TV and Globoplay.

Isaquias Queiroz can leave Paris as the Brazilian with the most medals at the Olympics

The four Olympic medals place Isaquias Queiroz in second position of Brazilian athletes with the most podiums in the tournament in history. The Flamengo athlete is behind only Torben Grael and Robert Scheidt, both with five medals in sailing, and has a chance of leaving the Games alone in the lead.

He will compete in two races in Paris: he will defend the gold in the C1 1000m, proving that he is the favorite for the medal, and in the C2 500m, alongside Jacky Godmann, who has already played for Flamengo. In other words, having a total of six medals at the end of this edition.

“I feel very mature and I can enjoy the Olympic period more than before. I think it will be really good in Paris, especially because I will have my wife and two children by my side watching me closely, something I couldn't have in Tokyo. I will have more energy while fighting in the water, knowing that they will be right by my side”, said Isaquias

Isaquias will debut at the Paris Olympics on August 6th to compete in the C2 500m qualifiers. The C1 1000m individual event will be on the 7th. The speed canoeing events will be at the Náutico stadium in Vaires-sur-Marne, 30km from Paris.

Essential for child development, breast milk is considered by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the “golden food”, giving rise to Golden August, a month to encourage breastfeeding. Thus, to reinforce support for the campaign, Flamengo's Social Responsibility department took, last Tuesday (27), water polo athlete Duda Martins, who is 26 weeks pregnant, and the club's mascots to meet the Maria Amélia Buarque de Holanda Municipal Maternity, a reference in humanized care for pregnant women, in the center of Rio.

As part of the activity program, the athlete received guidance on the breastfeeding process and the importance of breast milk in child development and in building bonds together with other pregnant and postpartum women cared for by the maternity ward.

“Flamengo's presence here today is extremely important because all actions aimed at Agosto Dourado aim to support, promote and increasingly encourage breastfeeding. Encouraging breastfeeding on demand, increasing breastfeeding time allows society to understand the real benefit that human milk has for both babies and mothers”, said Carla Navarrete, coordinator of the Nutrition and Dietetics Service at the Maternity Hospital and president of the Unit's Breastfeeding Committee.

“Visiting the Maria Amélia maternity ward was an incredible experience, I could see that the maternity ward is really very intense. I answered questions, learned and prepared myself a little more, and had contact with other pregnant women. Each of us had different doubts and fears, which were fully welcomed by the team that welcomed us. It was a pleasure to be part of Flamengo's social responsibility action”, said athlete Duda Martins.

Production assistant Josiane Portugal, who is also pregnant and undergoes prenatal care at the maternity ward, added. “Today I learned that only breast milk is enough and no other milk is needed for the child to grow up healthy. I loved Flamengo's presence here today. I'm a Flamengo fan, my family is Flamengo fan and I was very happy to know that Flamengo supports breastfeeding”, she praised.

As part of the proposal to humanize motherhood, the athlete received a beautiful pregnancy painting, which allowed you to understand how your baby is positioned inside your belly.
