The CBF responded to a long-standing request from Brazilian clubs and made adjustments to the 2024 transfer window, with the aim of aligning the dates with the main European leagues, allowing for a period of transactions in the middle of the year, between July and September . This change was crucial so that Brazilian clubs would have the opportunity to sign foreign players while European teams were at the start of the season and had their transfer windows open.

The big news for the Brazilian scene is equality in the number of weeks in the two transfer window periods in 2024, both lasting eight weeks. This represents a significant change compared to previous years, in which the first period was extended to 12 weeks, while the second lasted just four weeks, totaling the 16 week limit stipulated by FIFA regulations for negotiations.

The dates of the transfer window in Brazil for 2024 were defined as follows:

1st period - From January 11, 2024 to March 7, 2024

2nd period - From July 10, 2024 to September 2, 2024

The main European markets, such as Spain, England, France, Germany and Portugal traditionally concentrate their transfer windows between the end of June and the beginning of September, coinciding with the pre-season and the start of the main competitions.

For clubs Brazilians, who follow the calendar from January to December, in contrast to the European calendar from July to May, the first transfer window period occurred at the beginning of the year, between January and April. This created significant obstacles for Brazilian teams wishing to sign foreign players during this period, as foreign leagues were already in full swing.

The second period of the window in Brazil, which ran from early July to The beginning of August ended a month before the end of the European window, resulting in Brazilian players leaving for clubs abroad, without the opportunity for replacement, as the national window was closed. It is worth noting that players without a contract can still be signed at any time, regardless of whether their last team was from a foreign country. It is only necessary to respect the registration closing dates established in the regulations for national and continental competitions.

In September, the CBF proposed to FIFA different dates for the transfer window in 2024, as previously announced. The first, 12-week window was scheduled to run from January 15 to April 4, while the second, four weeks, from July 2 to August 1, following a similar pattern to 2023. However, after request from some Brazilian clubs to align the dates with the calendar of European powers, the CBF consulted FIFA and obtained authorization to divide the 16 weeks of the window into two of eight weeks each, instead of one of 12 weeks and another of four. This represents an important achievement for Brazilian football.

The CBF recently released the calendar for 2024, announcing the start of the State Championships on January 21st, while Série A will begin on April 14th. The football season in Brazil will end on December 8, providing clubs with a schedule more in line with international standards, which should improve teams' negotiation and planning capacity.

Flamengo is monitoring the market for reinforcements and, according to journalist Bruno Castanha, has Antony Alves of Portland Timbers as one of its targets in the transfer window. Despite his limited spotlight, the striker has excelled in Major League Soccer, attracting attention for his intensity and ability to break down defenses. The potential signing, however, sparks debate due to the lack of testing in more competitive leagues.

NAME OFF THE RADAR, BUT WITH GREAT KNOWLEDGE

Seeking more depth for Filipe Luis's squad, Flamengo has opened talks to monitor left winger Antony Alves , who currently plays for MLS's Portland Timbers. Despite being relatively unknown to fans, the player has been considered internally as a potential investment opportunity.

NAME ON THE RADAR OF THE MOST LOVED

The 24-year-old athlete was born and raised at Joinville, has had low-key stints with smaller clubs in Brazil, and has moved to the United States, where he is currently enjoying his best form. His name has surfaced on the red-and-black radar with the support of football director José Boto, who is seeking players outside the traditional European circuit.

Despite playing in a league considered to be of lower competitive level, Antony Alves boasts impressive stats that have piqued the interest of the club's analysis department. According to tactical analyst Raphael Rabello of the "Falando de Tática" channel, the striker has excellent technical indicators, especially in attacking plays.

One of the most important aspects in the player's favor is his off-the-ball behavior, a priority in the playing style of coach Filipe Luís , a permanent assistant on Filipe's coaching staff. Antony has stood out for his intense repositioning and for remaining alert to pressing movements. With Everton Cebolinha absent, Flamengo has been seeking alternatives that offer depth and break lines, a constant demand from the attacking sector.

Zico on the season: "All the titles will be Flamengo's"

During his participation in the Copa do Nordeste da Depressão program, the former player was direct when questioned by Kim Guerreiro about the probable champions of the three main competitions of the season: “ All the titles will be Flamengo's, of course, absolutely ”, stated Galinho.

CONFIDENT IDOL

Zico 's confidence is based on the team's consistent performance throughout the year. If they win the Libertadores, the club will have another chance to compete in the Intercontinental Cup. If they qualify for the final, their opponent will be Paris Saint-Germain.

FLAMENGO ON THE FIELD

The Rubro-Negro's next challenge will be this Saturday (12), at 4:30 pm, at Maracanã, against São Paulo, for the 13th round of the Brasileirão. Undefeated at home, Flamengo leads the competition with 24 points - the same score as Cruzeiro, but with an advantage in goal difference.

Flamengo's elimination in the round of 16 of the Club World Cup against Bayern Munich (4-2) raised questions behind the scenes . For reporter Eric Faria, from TV Globo, if the coach were not Filipe Luís, a dismissal after the competition would be likely .

Eric Faria on Filipe Luís at Flamengo: "He would have fallen after this World Cup"

"Knowing Flamengo after years of covering it, if it weren't for Filipe Luís, the coach would have fallen after this World Cup, just like Botafogo. The way they lost to Bayern, the internal issues with Pedro Arrascaeta ," the journalist analyzed during the Seleção SporTV program.

Eric also mentioned the impact of the club's recent internal turmoil, involving failed negotiations and boardroom interference: "This situation with signings almost announced and then undone, deals without much explanation... I believe it would have been left to the coach, if it weren't for Filipe Luís , the idol that he is and for the work he has done in recent months," he added.

PARTICIPATION IN THE WORLD CUP

Despite the early elimination against Bayern, Flamengo performed well in the group stage of the tournament : they beat Espérance de Tunis (TUN) and Chelsea (ENG), and drew with Los Angeles FC (USA), being one of the highlights of the first phase.

INTERNAL CRISIS

Behind the scenes, the club faced a crisis after president Luiz Eduardo Baptista vetoed the signing of Irish striker Mikey Johnston , who had been negotiated by José Boto with Filipe Luís's approval. The decision, prompted by strong backlash, caused tension between the board and the coaching staff.

FILIPE LUÍS SEGURO IN POSITION

Despite the turmoil, Filipe Luís remains a respected coach. In his first season, he won the Brazilian Super Cup and the Campeonato Carioca. In the Brasileirão, Flamengo leads with 23 points and a game in hand . The team has also qualified for the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil and the Copa Libertadores.
