Flamengo is targeting the signing of Nicolás De La Cruz. Despite having agreed with the player, the club was unable to enter into an agreement with River Plate (ARG), and the deal cooled down. The vice-president of the Argentine team, Ignacio Villarroel, opened the game about the negotiations between Rubro-Negro and the midfielder.
"Not everything in life is money. Nico de la Cruz is a home player, who is at home, at River. He represents River's values and shirt. More than the question of money, he is where he wants to be. Players have the last word. He is happy at River, in a place where competes, where they see him. He is a player and a person who respects contracts", said Villaroel, in an interview with 'UOL', which continued.
"Far beyond economics, the true athlete wants to come for River because he knows that they take care of him there, respect and protect him. It's for being in a very healthy squad, with many values and that compete every year, always to win. Local and international championships. It's the value that has the River", added the manager.
De La Cruz has a contract with River Plate until 2025, but, as he has been playing for the team since 2017, the Uruguayan understands that he has already 'fulfilled his mission' at the club and wants to breathe new airs, at the age of 26. The midfielder accepted Flamengo's proposal, but the Argentines did not accept the release, due to the Copa Libertadores de América, a tournament in which the Buenos Aires club sees Fla as one of the main competitors.
