With Flamengo's 3-0 victory in the first game, Nova Iguaçu practically said goodbye to the dream of the 2024 Carioca Champion title. However, if compared to the performance of rivals against Rubro-Negro, the team led by Carlos Vitor has to be proud. After all, statistics show that Nova Iguaçu managed to create more than Fluminense.

According to a survey, Nova Iguaçu made 11 shots against Flamengo. Of these, five were in charge of the goal in the first 90 minutes of the decision. Meanwhile, Fluminense, accumulating both semi-final games, did not hit a single shot on target. In total, there were 22 shots in 180 minutes, but none with any danger of scoring. The statistics were taken from the Google database.

In the current edition of the Campeonato Carioca, Flamengo presents such a solid defense that the fact of hitting the target has to be celebrated by rivals. After all, until then, the team conceded just one goal in 14 games in the tournament. Even so, the goal in question was conceded when Fla was using an alternative team, in a game against Nova Iguaçu, in the second round of the Guanabara Cup. In the remaining matches, with Tite in charge, the team maintained an invincible defense.

In addition to the defense, Flamengo's offensive sector has also made the fans proud. After all, with 28 goals scored, the team averages two goals per match. Pedro, Fla's number 9, is the team's main reference, being responsible for finding the net 11 times in the competition.

With the good performance in Carioca, Flamengo arrives confident for the kick-off in the Liberators. Next Tuesday (02), Rubro-Negro begins the campaign in search of the fourth, facing Millonarios, from Colombia. The game will be at the El Campín stadium, in Bogotá, at an altitude of approximately 2,600 meters. Therefore, Fla knows the difficulty, but also the importance of winning the three points away from home to start the competition well.

This Wednesday, the Flamengo is preparing for a breathtaking challenge. Not only because of the opponent on the field, but also because of the extreme altitude of La Paz, Bolivia, where they will face Bolívar in the third round of the Libertadores group stage. The clash will take place at the Hernando Siles stadium, located at an impressive 3,600 meters above sea level.

The preparation of the pitch was no less crucial than that of the players. On the eve of the game, special attention was given to watering and mowing the grass, in addition to the traditional Conmebol Libertadores preparation procedures, aiming to ensure the best conditions for the match.

FLAMENGO HAS IT TOUGH CHALLENGE AT LIBERTADORES

The Flamengo, in turn, adopted a strategy to minimize the impacts of altitude. Arriving in Bolivia on Tuesday night, the players will stay in Santa Cruz de la Sierra until hours before the game, when they will travel to La Paz. The decision aims to allow the athletes to have a shorter period of exposure to extreme altitude.

Despite the relevance of the clash, ticket sales for the match fell short of expectations. Although the available volume was 25 thousand tickets, until last Tuesday less than 4 thousand were sold. Reports of Flamengo fans experiencing difficulties in acquiring tickets were also recorded, including already in Bolivian territory.

With the ball rolling at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), Flamengo will face Bolívar in search of important points. Currently, Bolívar leads Group E with six points, while Flamengo occupies second place, with four points added.

Diogo Lemos, renowned leader of the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, expressed his criticisms to presenter André Rizek, from the Sportv channel, in relation to recent comments about the financial and strategic management of the Rio club. In a strong statement, Lemos made a point of highlighting his respect for Rizek's work, however, he did not hesitate to address the topic that he considers pertinent and relevant to the national sporting context.

Lemos expressed his concern regarding the way in which certain narratives, based on distorted metrics and superficial comparisons, have gained space in the sports media, including being featured in renowned programs and even in coaches' conferences.

The manager emphasized the importance of considering diverse aspects beyond the simple gross revenue of a club, such as the net profit presented by Flamengo, investments in infrastructure, appreciation of other sports and the payment of debts. He highlighted that such elements are essential for a more complete and fair analysis of the financial and administrative situation of a sports institution.

DOES FLAMENGO HAVE THE BIGGEST BUDGET IN BRAZIL?

Lemos also highlighted the issue of salaries in Brazilian football, pointing out that there are at least five clubs with salaries equivalent to or higher than Flamengo. He drew attention to the way some clubs spend their resources disproportionately and, in many cases, in a non-transparent manner, resulting in growing debts and questionable financial operations.

The Flamengo director concluded his statement by reinforcing the importance of correct information based on analysis of topics that are so relevant to the national sporting scene. He encouraged a more critical and constructive approach on the part of the sports press, highlighting that lack of knowledge and superficiality can generate false narratives that are harmful to the development of football as a sport, business and product.

Flamengo's bet for 2024, Carlinhos debuted with the red-black shirt when he came on in the 31st minute of the second half of the 2-1 victory over Atlético-GOin Serra Dourada, in the first round of the Brazilian Championship. After getting rid of the butterflies from his debut, he will have the mission of countering the statistics of the attackers who have been scoring goals at Carioca and gaining chances at big clubs, he will have to break a 'curse' that involved players like him. The reality is that few managed to succeed. Check out some recent examples below:

Just like Carlinhos , Lelê was Carioca's second top scorer, but last year with 13 goals for Volta Redonda, and joined the championship team at the age of 25. Performance that took him to Fluminense, but to this day he has not established himself. In 50 games with the tricolor shirt, there were eight goals and five assists.

In the 2021 Carioca, Chay appeared well at the age of 30 in Portuguesa, with five goals and three assists in 13 games. Hired by Botafogo, he did well in Series B that year, but lost space the following year and left the club with eight goals and 11 assists in 50 games.

Another highlight of Volta Redonda, Alef Manga was the Carioca 2021 top scorer with nine goals and also joined the championship team when he was 26 years old. Soon after, he was loaned to Goiás, where he scored 10 goals and four assists in 34 games. His performance took him to Coritiba, where he did well. But, at the age of 29, he was loaned to Pafos, in Cyprus, after becoming a defendant in the process that investigates the manipulation of results in Brazilian football.

Matheus Babi was 22 years old when he appeared well in the 2020 Carioca, playing five goals for Macaé. Loaned to Botafogo, he scored 15 goals in 48 games and was bought by Athletico-PR in 2021, but did poorly at Furacão. There were only four balls in the net and one decisive pass in 32 matches.

To sign Carlinhos, the second top scorer of the last Carioca at the age of 27 with eight goals, Flamengo paid 600 thousand euros (around R$ 3 .2 million) to Nova Iguaçu. And he also won competition from a rival, as the striker's agent had advanced negotiations with Vasco. This Wednesday, he will be able to make his debut with the red-black shirt at Maracanã in the match against São Paulo, at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), in the second round of the Brasileirão.
