Flamengo is drawing up ambitious plans to expand its brand internationally, with a focus on the United States in the coming weeks. The news was revealed by the club's Vice President of Marketing, Gustavo Oliveira, during an interview with Máquina do Esporte. According to Gustavo, the announcement of the internationalization project is scheduled to take place soon, as long as "everything goes well". He explained that the club is looking to take Flamengo's brand beyond national borders, with South America on its radar. The vice president emphasized that the idea is already taking shape and that if plans progress as expected, they will be able to share details with the public in a matter of a week or two, with a special focus on the US. This strategic move coincides with the World Cup approaching in the United States, where significant investments are taking place.

Although Gustavo has been secretive about the exact details of the project, he has provided some important clues about his ambitions. In July, he met with President Rodolfo Landim and Vice President Rodrigo Dunshee de Abranches in Florida, where they held a meeting with officials from Inter Miami, a team that recently signed star Lionel Messi. Furthermore, Flamengo is already establishing a presence in the US with the intention of increasing its visibility and engagement. Last month, the club held a friendly basketball match with the Orlando Magic, an NBA team, and organized activities involving fans in the United States at its official store in Orlando.

A point that deserves to be highlighted is the possible participation of Flamengo in the next edition of the Florida Cup, a tournament that the club won in 2019. There is speculation behind the scenes that the tournament organization is interested in having Flamengo participate, which could be in line with the coach's plans Tite to hold the club's pre-season outside of Rio de Janeiro. It is important to highlight that the United States will be one of the three hosts of the next World Cup, alongside Mexico and Canada. Inter Miami's recent signing of Lionel Messi is part of a broader strategy to increase Americans' interest in football. In this way, Flamengo sees a significant opportunity to internationalize its brand in an expanding market, taking advantage of the growing popularity of the sport in the North American nation.

This move is also in line with the global trend of internationalization of football and club brands. Football clubs seek to expand their fan bases and revenue sources in international markets by exploring new sponsorship and partnership opportunities, as well as the sale of licensed products. Flamengo's strategy for the United States could be a crucial step in building a solid global presence, consolidating its position as one of the most iconic clubs in world football.

The expansion of Flamengo's brand in the United States It is a strategic move that can bring significant benefits to the club, both in terms of global recognition and commercial opportunities. With the growing interest in football in the United States and the World Cup approaching, the timing seems right for Flamengo to take international flights and win new hearts and minds in the North American market.

Controversies always seem to surround Flamengo, and yet another unexpected piece of news involving the club came to light this Wednesday (18), this time related to women's football. Rubro-Negro was condemned by the courts in a case brought by six former players, with a decision that surprised everyone.

The action, which had been ongoing since 2021, resulted in a conviction worth R$3.2 million. According to information from Uol, the names of the players were not revealed, but they were released during the reformulation of the sport in 2022 and were seeking recognition of a professional bond with Flamengo.

Flamengo, which maintains a partnership with the Brazilian Navy did not pay the athletes directly, as they were third sergeants. They played for the club between 2015 and 2021, a period in which they won the Brazilian Women's Championship. However, the players argued that the practice adopted by the club and the Navy was irregular, according to the partnership contract.

“An item in the cooperation term made it clear that the Navy would not provide financial resources, nor would it carry out the direct transfer of facilities. Flamengo was intentionally omitted to pay the athletes”, guarantees lawyer Rafael Cunha.

Possibility of appeal

Despite the initial decision, Flamengo can still appeal. The Regional Labor Court of Rio de Janeiro unanimously understood that Flamengo benefited from the situation and determined that the club must record the athletes' contributions in their Work Cards, in addition to paying the due salaries and other labor obligations.

In addition to these six players, eight others also filed lawsuits against Flamengo for the same reason, but their trials have not yet taken place. In response to Uol, the club commented on the case:

“Of the nine legal actions involving former Navy athletes and coaches, eight had court decisions removing the employment relationship with the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, considering that these are exclusively third-level Navy sergeants”, he says.

At the dojô, the children were welcomed by the coach of the under-13 and under-15 red-black judo teams, Rodrigo Domiciano, who, together with club athletes, shared his experiences and spoke about the importance of dedication to progress in the sport. “In the midst of so many negative references, it is essential that these children have positive references. Here they can see that it is possible to reach a higher degree, seek a black belt, seek important competitions and this will change their realities”, he said.

For many, the day was a unique opportunity to become inspire, dream big and continue following the path of sport. “The children came very excited. They've been talking about coming here to Flamengo for a week. It's important for them to be here, in a different place, with so much structure... This all makes them want to dedicate themselves more”, said professor Alves, who teaches judo at Jogaremos Juntos - Núcleo Queimados. Cantagalo resident Leda Maria Pereira de Macedo, mother of student Davi, added. “Children who live in communities need sports so they don't get lost and judo has already got my son back on track. He now has discipline, he has become another child! Davi takes a shower, goes to bed early... I'm very happy. I'm very grateful to have the project there”, she praised.

With its own methodology, Jogaremos Juntos is an education project through sport, based on socio-emotional skills. Through it, children and young people have the opportunity to work on self-knowledge, resilience, empathy, focus and other skills that they learn from sports and put into practice to face and overcome challenges in life, whether at school, in family or with friends.

In total, the project serves 800 children in six communities in Rio de Janeiro - Cantagalo Pavão Pavãozinho, Complexo do Alemão, Vila Aliança, Morro do Banco, Santa Cruz and Queimados - with classes football, judo, basketball, artistic gymnastics and volleyball. Between June 20th and July 14th, 2024 Copa América competition period, Palmeiras and Flamengo will play seven official matches. Corinthians, São Paulo and most of the Serie A teams will take to the field six times each. Brazil may not be alone, but it is an exception in the decision not to paralyze its football calendar during the continent's main national team competition.

In addition to the five-time world champion country, only three more of the 16 nations participating in the Copa América (Canada, United States and Uruguay) decided to keep their national championships running normally during the tournament that will decide the best team in the Americas.

What's it like out there?< /b>

Most of the nations that will take to the field at the Copa América have already finished their first semester national tournaments and will only resume activities at the end of July (such as Paraguay and Colombia) or will take a break in the league until the end of the continental championship (in the case of Argentina and Chile).

Among the federations affiliated to Conmebol, the one that breaks this rule is Uruguay. Its first division even postponed some matches, but has rounds scheduled for June 22/23, July 6 and July 13.

The MLS, a league that brings together North American and Canadian teams, It will not change your traditional calendar in any way. Even with the majority of matches played in the same country that will be hosting the Copa América, it will continue to be played at the normal pace, with weekly rounds.

The same goes for the Canadian Premier League, the main championship that brings together only clubs in Canada. It, however, is seen even at home as a second-tier league, since the biggest local forces are in the MLS.

In Brazil, up to 36 absences

Considering the preliminary lists released by each participant (the official squads have not yet been finalized), the Copa América could result in up to 36 absences in Brazilian clubs.

These athletes, in fact, have already been out of action for their teams since the beginning of the month, as they were initially released for the friendlies scheduled for the FIFA Data period and are now participating in the pre-season of the their teams.

Only Flamengo, leader of the Brasileirão, must provide five players for the competition: Matías Viña, Guillermo Varela, Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Nicolás de la Cruz (Uruguay), in addition to Erick Pulgar (Chile ).

For this reason, Fla itself and eight other teams participating in Série A even made a formal request to the CBF, back in February, so that at least four rounds of the national competition coincide with the Copa América were postponed.

The request was denied by the entity due to the lack of available dates on the national calendar.

Brazil will be the last to debut

Brazil's debut match, against Costa Rica, on the 24th, in Inglewood, on the outskirts of Los Angeles, will be the last of the first round of the Copa América.
