Flamengo's behind-the-scenes are always something to talk about among fans and all football lovers. Last Saturday (29), good news ended up resonating. The early elimination of the Chilean team from the Copa América will make Erick Pulgar return early and be available to Tite, again. In fact, with his return, Léo Ortiz may lose space.

In the midst of this, the construction of the Mais Querido stadium continues to have repercussions. In fact, the expropriation of the Gasometer, the land on which the new Flamengo club will be built, divided opinions.

In participation in the Sports Finance program, from UOL Esporte, Paulo Vinícius Coelho, PVC defended the expropriation: “There is a confusion about this thing that the land is public. The important thing is the following: Caixa manages an investment fund called Porto Maravilha and which is part of the process of enabling the consortium urban operation, which was created to take degraded areas and transform them into revitalized areas. It was part of the Olympic project”, he began.

He went further: “And what happened with this viability of the consortium urban operation? It was not viable. You can argue that Caixa wanted to sell it for R$250 million reais and Flamengo could buy it at auction for R$180 million, but the City Hall carried out the expropriation, as in all expropriation they must pay the market value and everything is correct. (…) The land is part of a city revitalization process, so this is the point of discussion regarding public land. Almost all clubs in Brazil had some type of benefit.”

The journalist continued to justify his point: “For example, Palestra Itália bought the land from Companhia Antártica Paulista, but CT is a loan from the City Hall from São Paulo, so there is some benefit. In the case of Flamengo, it is part of the consortium urban operation, which was to revitalize that part of the city, so it makes perfect sense to expropriate it for the benefit of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro”, he concluded.
