Defender lost space with Tite at Mengão and is in Internacional’s sights for July
|
Veteran David Luiz is once again being considered to leave Flamengo, the club he has defended since 2021. At the time, the defender had just left Arsenal, in England. Since then, the defender has established himself as one of the leaders of the squad and has won multiple titles for the club. However, since last year, David has been losing space, even being considered to end his cycle with the team at the end of 2023.
And, although he remained, his situation has not changed, even having worsened with the arrival of Léo Ortiz. In the midst of this, Internacional emerged as interested, but will have to pay to sign him. The Flamenguista channel in Portugal reported this Friday (17) that Mengão, although it does not rule out losing the veteran, is not willing to release him for free.
In this scenario, if you wish to count on the player already in the second half of the year, the Colorado club will have to pay a transfer fee to close the deal.
The value, however, tends to be low, as the defender's contract will end in December . Still, Inter hoped they could get a free release.
The channel still states that there are no formal conversations yet, with Mengão having only defined his position in the face of the situation. In 2024, David has only seven matches and no goals scored.
Mengão intends to build his own stadium on the site expropriated by Rio de Janeiro City Hall

Flamengo fans had two reasons to celebrate this Sunday (23). In addition to the 1-0 victory against Fluminense, the club received the news that the Gasologista land will be expropriated by the City of Rio de Janeiro. There, Rubro-Negro intends to build its own stadium. Cacau Cotta, Flamengo's director of external relations, detailed the next steps for the construction of the arena.
Cacau Cotta explained that the expropriation of the land now places the property under the responsibility of the city hall, and that the club has the resources necessary to acquire part of the land: "The land now belongs to the city hall. There is no legal dispute (...) What could arise in the future is a negotiation about the values...".
— "People sometimes get confused, because the mayor's decree is a decree that transfers the ownership of the land to the city hall. An expropriation does not imply a legal dispute. What may arise in the future is a negotiation of values. Soon, in 20, 30 days, there will be an auction, Flamengo has the necessary resources, and will pay for it. land the fair value, just as the city hall paid for the Gentileza Terminal. Flamengo will make the payment, so rest assured, there is no legal dispute. What could happen is just a discussion about land values", stated Cacau Cotta.
Cacau Cotta also celebrated the historic moment for Flamengo: "Let's celebrate, because today is a day of celebration with this beautiful victory. A difficult game against Fluminense is always a complicated game and (the stadium) represents a milestone in Flamengo's history. We've waited 130 years for this moment, haven't we? To finally have land to build our own stadium. Now it's President Landim's turn to explain, I gave you the details, for the mayor to explain, for (deputy) Pedro Paulo, who is by our side in this fight. That's what I always say, it's the red-black bench working in favor of Flamengo."
OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF EXPROPRIATION
This Sunday morning (23), the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, and deputy Pedro Paulo recorded a video announcing the expropriation of the Gasometer land. The space belongs to an investment fund from Caixa Econômica Federal. Flamengo and the municipality tried to negotiate with the bank, but received no response, leading the City Hall to order the expropriation.
Pedro, with a penalty, kept Mengão in the lead

In a classic valid for the 11th round of the Brasileirão, Flamengo beat Fluminense 1-0 this Sunday afternoon (23), at Maracanã. The goal that guaranteed the victory was scored by Pedro, from a penalty, keeping Mengão in the isolated lead of the competition with 24 points.
The match was marked by a controversial move in the 40th minute of the second half. Bruno Henrique was brought down in the area by Calegari, resulting in a penalty that Pedro converted, shooting into the middle of the goal and guaranteeing the red-black victory. The decision generated many complaints from Fluminense, who considered the marking incorrect.
Defender was replaced by Léo Pereira at halftime of Fla x Flu

Flamengo suffered another medical problem this Sunday. The club reported on its social networks that David Luiz felt a problem with his right knee during the first half of the derby against Fluminense and was therefore replaced by Léo Pereira at half-time.
David Luiz has been starting at the back red-black in the last games and even scored two goals. In the final minutes of Fla-Flu's first half, he got involved in some physical disputes with Ganso in the area and ended up receiving a yellow card along with the tricolor midfielder. In the second half, he remained on the bench with ice on his knee.
Flamengo, who has been playing without five players who are in the Copa América (Arrascaeta, De la Cruz, Varela, Viña and Pulgar), has found it difficult to empty its medical department. Allan and Ayrton Lucas returned in the last game against Bahia after recovering from injuries, but Igor Jesus (left ankle) and Cebolinha (hip) are still there.
With the victory against the Rio tricolor, Flamengo reaches 24 points and continues to lead the Brasileirão. Right behind is Bahia with 21, Palmeiras (who are still playing in the round) with 20 and Botafogo also with 20 points, completing the G4.
The next commitment for Tite's men is also for the Brazilian Championship. In this sense, Flamengo will face Juventude, away from home, next Wednesday (26th), at 8pm.
