Actor Babu Santana, known for his performance in soap operas and for his participation in reality shows, announced his candidacy for the position of councilor in the municipal elections in Rio de Janeiro, which will take place in 2024. With this decision, Babu joins a series of public figures who decided to follow the path of politics, bringing their experiences and visibility to the electoral scene.
Babu's entry into politics follows a trend observed over the years, where several celebrities used their popularity to gain public office. One of the most striking examples is that of Tiririca, who was elected federal deputy in 2010 and 2014, being the most voted in the country in his first election. His trajectory showed the impact that media personalities can have at the polls.
Another name that made history was Jean Wyllys, winner of Big Brother Brasil 5, who served as federal deputy for Rio de Janeiro between 2010 and 2018. His political career, however, ended in 2019, after receiving threats that put his security at risk, highlighting the challenges faced by politicians in Brazil.
In addition to them, other celebrities also entered political life. Ratinho, famous TV presenter, was a councilor in Jandaia do Sul and Curitiba, as well as a federal deputy. This Friday (16), Babu Santana participated in the debut episode of Ivy Moraes' podcast, Conta para Ivy. The presenter was on Big Brother Brasil during edition 20, in 2020. Inside the house, the two didn't have the best of relationships and the influencer even became a meme for repeatedly voting for the Flamengo fan to compete for elimination, at Paredão .
During the conversation, the two touched on many topics, also remembering the time of confinement. Among the 22 contestants on the reality show, the two of them were in the group that left at the end of the program, having spent many weeks together. Babu also recalled the troubles she went through in her life before fame and even talked about whether she would be willing to experience a reality show again.
