The Irishman arrives to compete for a position with attacking players, who are experiencing low performance and are considered negotiable

Flamengo is close to officially signing 26-year-old striker Mikey Johnston from West Bromwich Albion in England. According to journalist Venê Casagrande, the Rio de Janeiro club will pay around R$35 million for the transfer, and the contract will be for four years . The player is expected to travel to Brazil after final adjustments to the bureaucratic procedures.
Johnston prefers to play on the left wing, a position currently occupied by Everton Cebolinha and Michael. With his performance below that of both players, the Irishman arrives to fight for space and increase competitiveness in the sector. The signing also reflects the diagnosis of the football department, which sees the need for offensive renewal.
Mikey Johnston's arrival should not be an isolated incident. Internally, the club's board of directors understands that it is time to renew players in attack, especially on the wings. Michael and Everton Cebolinha have not been able to establish themselves this season , and the club is already working on the possibility of negotiating them soon.
After a remarkable stint between 2020 and 2021, Michael returned to Flamengo surrounded by expectations. However, his second stint has been discreet and marked by irregular performances. According to ge, the player himself expressed the desire to leave in 2025, but was convinced to stay for a while longer. The atmosphere, however, is not the best.
Tactically, Michael does not fit into Flamengo's current playing style. His style based on dribbling and individual plays, which sometimes worked in the past, has now proven to be ineffective. His lack of tactical discipline has weighed against him remaining on the field in decisive games. Everton Cebolinha's situation is also not the most comfortable.
The reappearance was led by the coach, who began the work aiming at the continuation of the season. Gerson, with official departure for Zenit

Flamengo officially resumed training this Saturday (05), after a short break granted to the squad. The return was marked by a two-period training session at CT Ninho do Urubu, with physical exercises and work on the field. Under the command of assistant coach Filipe Luís, who takes over the activities temporarily during the FIFA Date , the group began preparing for the next phase of the Brazilian Championship and other competitions in the second half of the year.
The players arrived in the morning and began their activities at the club's gym, focusing on physical conditioning. The group then went to the field and participated in technical activities, focusing on movement and team harmony. The coaching staff also took advantage of the day for individual observations and conversations with players who may gain space in the coming weeks.
The main absence at the reappearance was Gerson n . The midfielder had his contract termination published in the CBF's Daily Information Bulletin (BID) and is no longer part of the red-black squad. Despite the expectation that he would be able to appear at the CT to say goodbye to his teammates, the player did not show up at Ninho do Urubu this Saturday. Gerson is on his way to Zenit, in Russia, a club with which he has already signed a contract.
Unlike the midfielder, Pedro was present at the training center and trained normally with the squad. During the week, rumors circulated about Flamengo's interest in negotiating with the striker, but internally the player remains focused on training and at the disposal of the coaching staff. Vinição, a Mengo product, stands out after being announced as a reinforcement for the German team; the Rio de Janeiro club will make a huge profit from the deal

Midfielder Vinícius Souza was transferred from Sheffield United to Wolfsburg for 15 million euros (approximately R$95.8 million) . FIFA rules reserve up to 5% of the transfer fee paid by clubs to reward all clubs that contributed to the development of the athlete between the ages of 12 and 23. In Vinícius' case, Flamengo accumulated 3.05% because he left the club at the age of 21.
This transfer reinforces the sustainable business model of the red-black base, which obtained financial returns even without the sale of the athlete in loco. To give you an idea, a similar mechanism yielded the club around R$11 million in the sale of Lucas Paquetá, for example. The amount of R$3 million will be deposited directly into the club's coffers.
Transfer: 15 million euros (~R$ 95.8 million)
Solidarity percentage: 3.05%
Estimated total for Flamengo: R$3 million
This amount is not exceptional for an individual transfer, but it shows how small amounts can generate consistent resources for the club. When added to other negotiations – especially of athletes revealed at Ninho –, these revenues reinforce the financial viability of the red-black base without depending on immediate sales.
