The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decided to challenge the panel that gave effect suspension for Gabigol. Therefore, the Flamengo striker is free to play and will be selected for this Saturday's game (20), against Criciúma, in Brasília, for the 18th round of the Brasileirão.

Therefore, the CAS decision partially accepted the Union's request to annul Gabigol's process. Therefore, without challenging the suspensive effect, the decision remains valid and the player is released until the final judgment. Flamengo and the player have already been notified about the decision.

Understand

In the last three days, after a request from attacker's defense, the court decided to release the athlete to continue active. The allegation is that the player could not have his career harmed by a technical issue in the trial. The CAS made official this Friday the partial annulment of the process, maintaining the suspensive effect on the athlete, but changing the panel of referees.

Punished in Brazil in March by Anti-Doping Sports Court of Justice (TJD-AD) , Gabigol decided to appeal to the CAS. In the Swiss court, the judging panel is made up of three arbitrators: one appointed by the athlete's defense, one by the CAS and theoretically one by the Union.

However, the Brazilian government requested the annulment of the process with the argument that he was not properly notified and, therefore, did not appoint an arbitrator for the trial. Thus, at the time of the suspensive effect, on April 30, and until this Friday there were two representatives from CAS and one from the player. With the annulment, the two arbitrators appointed by the court, Dolf Segaar and James Drake, resigned.

The Union will have until the 29th to appoint a representative to the new panel. CAS will also appoint a new arbitrator. These two, as indicated by Gabigol, will decide on maintaining the suspensive effect and will subsequently judge the case, which should take place by October.

The fans of Flamengo are organizing another "AeroFla", a movement in which they accompany and support the team at the airport before important matches. This time, the mobilization takes place amid an atmosphere of urgency, as the club prepares for the decisive clash in Uruguay, after the 1-0 defeat to Peñarol at Maracanã, in the Copa Libertadores 2024.

Under the command of Tite, Flamengo is facing a delicate moment in the season, with the pressure to reverse the result to remain in contention. Even with the stumble at home, the red and black fans maintain their faith and tradition of showing unconditional support for the team, whether in moments of victory or crisis.

FLAMENGO HAS ANOTHER SHOW OF LOVE

“AeroFla” is more than a simple reception at the airport. This is a manifestation of Flamengo's passion, which transcends results on the field. Fans promise to fill Tom Jobim International Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, to give the players one last incentive before leaving for Uruguay. The expectation is that thousands of red and black people will gather, singing songs and holding flags, in a clear demonstration that, in the Flamengo, the support is present "in love and hate, until the end", as is common to hear among the club's fans .

Flamengo's current scenario in the Libertadores reflects a team that, despite its star-studded squad, still seeks to consolidate a style of play under Tite's command. The defeat to Peñarol, at home, complicated life for Flamengo, who now need to win away to guarantee their classification. The fans, aware of the difficulty, do not let up and reinforce the idea that support off the field is essential for success on it.

The Flamengo, one of the biggest clubs in Brazilian football, is experiencing a moment of turbulence. The recent defeat to Peñarol, in the middle of Maracanã, by 1-0, during the first game of the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores, increased even more pressure on coach Tite, who had already been the target of criticism due to his poor performance. expected from the team throughout the season. With club elections scheduled for the end of the year and Tite's contract approaching the end, the coach's renewal is considered unlikely. In this scenario, Luís Castro emerges as one of the main candidates to take over Flamengo's technical command, according to details released behind the scenes.

The match against Peñarol, held last Thursday (19), was a reflection of the difficulties faced by Flamengo this season. The team performed poorly on the field, with few clear chances to score and unable to impose their game against an opponent who knew how to defend themselves well. The substitutions made by Tite throughout the match did not bring the expected impact, and Flamengo ended up being defeated at home, frustrating their fans.

The fans' dissatisfaction was evident during the game, with boos directed at the team at several moments. This behavior was not well received by everyone in the squad, especially goalkeeper Rossi. In an interview after the game, the athlete vented, stating that, during the match, the support of the fans is essential, and that booing only increases the pressure on the players at a crucial moment.

With the defeat for Peñarol, the pressure on Tite increased significantly. Since his arrival at Flamengo, the coach has been facing difficulties implementing his playing style and obtaining consistent results. The team fluctuated in important competitions and was unable to maintain the level of performance expected by a club of Flamengo's size and tradition.

In recent months, the controversy surrounding the striker's suspension Gabi goal, a one of the most popular players in Brazilian football, dominated sports headlines. The decision by the Anti-Doping Sports Court (TJD-AD) to suspend the athlete for two years generated a whirlwind of reactions. However, the recent intervention of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) brought a new chapter to this story.

On April 30, 2024, CAS issued a preliminary decision that lifted the two-year suspension imposed by the TJD-AD. The Brazilian Doping Control Authority (ABCD), responsible for anti-doping regulation and inspection in Brazil, confirmed that this decision has been in force since then. This means that, from that date onwards, Gabigol is free to compete and train without restrictions.

GABIGOL IS FIT TO PLAY

For football fans and for himself Gabigol, this decision represents a relief and an opportunity to resume his career. The suspension had generated intense debates about the justice and effectiveness of the anti-doping system in Brazil. The CAS intervention shows the complexity and multiple layers of this system, which aims to ensure clean sport, but also fair for athletes.

ABCD plays a crucial role in doping control in the country. By confirming the CAS decision, the entity reinforces its commitment to transparency and justice in sport. However, ABCD also highlighted that it will not comment on details of the procedure, as the processes that are being carried out before the CAS are confidential by regulation. This stance is essential to preserve the integrity of investigations and protect the rights of those involved.
