The president of the São Paulo Football Federation, Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos, announced this Saturday morning that he will be a candidate for the presidency of the CBF . The election is scheduled for May 25. In an official statement, the leader said that he already has the support of some federations and the majority of the clubs in Series A and B of the Brazilian Championship.
According to "ge", at least four state federations have already expressed support for Reinaldo's name: São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Tocantins and Mato Grosso. Now, the president of the FPF seeks to consolidate his candidacy with the clubs, which meet virtually this Saturday (17) to define their position in the election that will decide Ednaldo Rodrigues' successor.
The elections were called by judicial interventor Fernando Sarney, after Ednaldo was removed from office last Thursday (14). The election is scheduled for a Sunday during the Brasileirão round (25), and candidates have until the 20th to register.
The electoral process intensified rapidly. A group formed by 19 state federations released a manifesto shortly after Ednaldo's fall and articulated the candidacy of Samir Xaud, president-elect of the Federation of Roraima , currently the most mobilizing name among state representatives.
Meanwhile, according to the portal, in addition to Reinaldo, a possible “third way” also emerges, with talks around a consensus name: Luciano Hocsman , president of the Gaucho Football Federation.
Dissatisfied with the way they have been marginalized in the negotiations, leaders of the clubs that are part of Libra and Liga Forte Futebol (LFU) are discussing the course of the process and demanding greater protagonism. The clubs' actions could be decisive for the outcome of the election.
Aware of this scenario, Samir Xaud sent a letter to the CBF this Saturday asking that the election date be postponed to Monday, the 26th, to facilitate the participation of the directors. Sarney's response has not yet been made official, but the tendency is that there will be no resistance to the change.
Coincidentally, the same day of the election (25) is also scheduled for the official presentation of Carlo Ancelotti as the new coach of the Brazilian National Team , in addition to the team's call-up for the matches against Ecuador and Paraguay in the World Cup Qualifiers.
