This Wednesday (9) FlaBasquete trained at Maracanãzinho, with an eye on the duel against Vasco, in week 1 of the NBB. Pride of the Nation begins the search for its eighth title next Saturday (12), at 5pm, in a classic held at Tijuca Tênis Clube.
Flamengo hasn't won the NBB since the 2020/2021 season. Rubro-Negro comes from two runners-up finishes in the last three editions, all won by Franca. As a result, the team has changed a lot for the current dispute. To help with the adaptation, remainders such as Franco Balbi and Gui Deodato will be important. The winger commented on the responsibility of helping his new teammates.
“This is work that doesn't happen overnight, but those who are coming are responding very well and that is the most important thing. Everyone who is arriving is recognizing what Flamengo is and on a normal day like this, normal in many quotes, as there is a lot of pressure in our training, certainly when it comes time for the game we will be prepared“, said Deodato in an interview with Rádio Tupi.
Coach Gustavo de Conti spoke about putting together the FlaBasquete squad
The coach of Flamengo b>, Gustavo de Conti, praised the squad formed for the 2024/2025 season. ‘Gustavinho’ praised the squad’s qualities and stated that the focus will be on the top of the table, whatever the competition.
“The The squad became very competitive, above all, just like every year I've been here at Flamengo. It's a squad to fight for at the top, in the table, in all the competitions we participate in. It was a very physical, very versatile squad, with players who can play in several positions. This is very important for the long season we have. Anyway, I really like what I’m seeing so far”, revealed the coach.
O FlaBasquete did pre-season in Spain, with some friendlies, and competed in the NBB Opening Tournament, taking third place in the first edition of the competition.

The Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB) announced this week the list of athletes called up to compete in the Solidarity Cup, an international friendly tournament that will take place in China between July 24 and 31. Two Flamengo players, power forward Kayo Gonçalves and the recently signed Daniel Onwenu , are among those chosen to wear the Brazilian National Team jersey.
With five matches scheduled, the competition will serve as a platform for young talent and will provide training for athletes who could join the national squad in the cycle leading up to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Head coach Aleksandar Petrovic will not lead the team at this stage ; that role will be taken over by Rodrigo Carlos da Silva.
At 26, Kayo Gonçalves is a product of Flamengo's youth academy and returned to the club last season. Averaging 6.9 points and 4.1 rebounds, he played a key role in the BCLA and Copa Super 8 victories, earning a contract extension through the 2025/26 season.
Daniel Onwenu, 25, was recently announced as a new addition to the team. According to the CBB , the Solidarity Cup aims to expand the range of options for the Olympic cycle. The competition will feature opponents such as New Zealand, Montenegro, and the Chinese team Guangdong. The fifth opponent is yet to be announced.
