Flávio Willeman, former legal vice-president under Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, announced that he will not be a candidate for president of Flamengo, contrary to the opposition's expectations. Willeman was seen as one of the strongest names to unify the opposition in the succession of Rodolfo Landim. However, he keeps open the possibility of contesting another election, that of president of the Deliberative Council, against Landim himself. The decision was announced first-hand by journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira, based on sources from the club's opposition.

With the final date for registering candidates approaching (September 30), the opposition has not yet reached a consensus on a name. Groups that supported Walter Monteiro and Ricardo Hinrichsen in the last elections want to define their position by next week. The lack of definition generates concern among oppositionists, who fear the lack of a strong candidate to face the club's current leaders. Internal discussions intensify as the deadline approaches.

Maurício Gomes de Mattos, former vice-president of Embassies and Consulates of Flamengo, seeks support among different opposition groups. However, he faces resistance for having been part of the Landim administration until the beginning of this year and not making strong criticisms of his former ally. This political ambiguity makes it difficult for him to be accepted as a consensus candidate. Gomes de Mattos is trying to consolidate his candidacy, but the lack of unanimous support represents a significant obstacle.

Another possible candidate is Carlos Ferrão, who launched a pre-candidacy, but his low visibility in Flamengo's internal politics is a disadvantage. Some members of opposition groups believe that the main objective is to prevent Rodrigo Dunshee de Abranches' victory, seen as a political setback and a risk to Flamengo's transformation into Sociedade Anônima do Futebol (SAF). Along these lines, they are considering supporting Bap or not launching their own candidacy so as not to divide votes.

Bap's signature on the amendment that makes it difficult to create a SAF in Flamengo opened up the possibility of understanding with the president of the Board of Directors . However, there is no consensus among oppositionists about Bap's viability as a candidate. The biggest tendency is for the opposition to have its own candidate. Willeman's decision not to run for president makes it easier to choose a new name, as other pre-candidates were considering giving up if he presented himself.
