DIRECTORS OF FLAMENGO AND BOTAFOGO SHOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PROFESSIONAL AND SCIENTIFIC FOOTBALL ADMINISTRATION AND, IN THE PAST, INTUITIVE DECISIONS

Perhaps, while Flamengo still has a lot more money than Botafogo will be able to have some competition, despite the supremacy of 15 points in the Brazilian Championship. But when this is no longer a reality, what can happen?

Many ask how, in the 2023 Brazilian Championship, Flamengo - a billionaire club, with astronomical revenues and a squad full of renowned and desired stars - is 15 points behind Botafogo - a club with a much lower budget than its rival, with quality players but hitherto unknown and a team so well put together.

Is it not enough to have money to assume the role in the Championships? Are billions not enough to guarantee bonds?

Let's go! There is a decisive management factor: Botafogo is a club that belongs to a businessman, who doesn't want to throw his money away!

For John Textor, owner of Glorious, all of his clubs are not just “toys” in his hands so that he can express his vanities, as currently happens with Rodolfo Landim, President of Flamengo, and rubro-negro football.

All of Textor's personal and company choices are made through competent scout work, and based on statistics and scientific information.

< p>On the other hand, Flamengo hires Cebolinhas. That is, it hires names that will calm the crowd in times of turmoil. In the case of Everton Cebolinha, specifically, the hiring was done without scientific observation and understanding of his failure in Portugal, for example.

It is also possible to talk about the lack of depth in hiring some of Flamengo's coaches! Landim hired assistant Domènec Torrent-only because he had worked with Guardiola; hired Paulo Sousa - who is not recognized as a coach even in Portugal; hired Vítor Pereira - since he is also Portuguese and had competed in championships in Brazil; and, more recently, hired Jorge Sampaoli - for being a good name in the market and for wanting this professional in the red-negro.

In the last selection and hiring for coach from Flamengo, running for the position were Jorge Jesus and Jorge Sampaoli - antagonistic technicians regarding how they think about Football, how they assemble their teams and how they manage their groups. This clearly shows the club's total ignorance and lack of strategic planning.

In the end, the option for one or the other was due to not wanting to wait 1 month for the coach best suited to the squad. It wasn't tactics, it wasn't technique, it wasn't by profile, it wasn't by any important requirement…

At Botafogo, in turn, they scientifically chose Luís Castro . The club waited 5 months, keeping an interim in charge until he could take over. There was no second option! They were scientifically certain of what they wanted, the professional profile they were looking for and the results they expected to achieve with this professional.

When Luís Castro left, they brought Bruno Lage - a coach with the same characteristics and skills as the previous one and totally oriented to continue the work.

Perhaps, while Flamengo still has a lot more money than Botafogo gives to have some competition, despite the supremacy of 15 points in the Brazilian Championship. But, when this is no longer a reality, what can happen?
