With ten games remaining until the end of the regular season, Flamengo regained the lead in the NBB classification after a week with Minas' stumble. The teams have been fighting for the top of the table since the beginning of the season. But, with the Minas Gerais team's defeat to São Paulo, Franca also gained a position. Check out everything that happened in the last week of Novo Basquete Brasil.

To return to the top of the NBB classification, Flamengo won its two commitments of the week. Both, in fact, away from home. On Thursday, they beat Cerrado in a tough game. On Saturday, it was time to beat Brasília with a packed gym. This is because the BRB Nilson Nelson Arena received 11 thousand fans.

Minas, in turn, only played one match. Even playing at home, they were surpassed by São Paulo. The São Paulo tricolor has been on the rise this season and achieved a great triumph at the UniBH Arena. So, it was the third setback for the Minas Gerais team playing at home. With the defeat, they fell to third place.

Franca, who had fewer games than their direct rivals, played three matches in the last seven days. And he beat them all. The first two matches, against Pinheiros and Corinthians, were away from home. Closing the busy week, the current NBB champion overcame Pato Basquete without difficulty at Pedrocão.

But one of the main duels in national basketball last week was between Bauru and Vasco. The teams, which have similar campaigns, faced each other at the Pressure Cooker Gym. The Rio club then got the better of it and forced the São Paulo team's first defeat at home in the current season. Bauru, after all, had won 11 home games, but ended up being defeated by the Cruz-Maltino team. Thus, Vasco consolidated itself in fourth place in the NBB.

It is also worth highlighting São José's good performances. The team started the season very well, but dropped in production. Now, he played good games again and came away with two victories. With a century-old score, they beat União Corinthians, at home. The match was marked by the historic performance of point guard Diego Figueredo, who scored 41 points. As a result, it broke the current campaign's points record and reached the ninth highest score in the league's history.

Finally, the NBB week had the majestic classic. São Paulo and Corinthians faced each other at Morumbi. The tricolor had achieved great results against Minas, while the black and white team had been surpassed by Franca. However, the one who came out on top was Timão. In fact, it was Corinthians' first victory at their rival's home in the history of the NBB.

The Argentine winger Martín Cuello will not continue at Flamengo. The player announced that his intention is to return to the Argentine National League or compete in the Uruguayan League, where he already played for Club Malvin in 2021.

Cuello, who is known by his nickname "Loku", arrived at Flamengo had high expectations, but his time at the Brazilian club was relatively short. With the red and black shirt, Cuello had good moments, but was unable to establish himself as one of the team's main players. The decision not to continue at Flamengo seems to be more related to his personal plans and the search for new opportunities in his career.

FLAMENGO IS RESCUED

Martín Cuello arrived at Flamengo as a promising reinforcement . The player, 1.92m tall, is known for his versatility on the court and ability to play both wing and point guard positions. His experience in South American leagues, including his time at Club Malvin in Uruguay, led to the expectation that he could add value to the Flamengo squad.

During his stay at Flamengo, Cuello participated in several competitions, including the NBB (New Basketball Brazil). However, he failed to stand out consistently and ended up not having the impact expected by the board and fans. Despite this, Cuello demonstrated professionalism and dedication, characteristics that are valued in the sporting world.

Flamengo and Franca made the NBB grand final and the São Paulo team came out on top after four matches. At the end of the championship, the NBB voted for the best of the 2023/24 season, and Mais Querido had two representatives chosen: Gui Deodato and Gabriel Jaú.

Gui Deodato won the award for best winger of the year, with 12.4 points and 12.9 efficiency, alongside Isaac Thornton, from Botafogo. Inside the cage, the winner was Gabriel Jaú, chosen as one of the pivots of the year, with 13.5 points and seven rebounds. The other best pivot was Lucas Dias, from Sesi Franca.

OTHER CATEGORIES AWARDED

In addition to the "best pivots and best wingers" award, the NBB also awarded other categories, such as: coach of the year, defender of the year, point guard, 6th man, foreigner of the year, outstanding young player, biggest evolution, most efficient player, assists leader, rebounds leader, basket of the year and MVP.

SEASON 2023 /24 DO FLAMENGO

Mais Querido had a campaign below expectations at Flabasquete. This is because Rubro-Negro only won the Super 8 Cup trophy and was runner-up in the NBB and the Champions League of the Americas. Therefore, a better season is expected from Rubro-Negro.

This Wednesday (19), Mais Querido officially renewed the contract with Gustavinho, coach of the main team. Thus, despite fans' complaints towards the coach, he will lead the team for a few more seasons.
