Owning some of the most expensive signings in football history, Paris Saint-Germain have been denounced to the European Union for allegedly distorting the European transfer market.

The signing of Ousmane Dembélé from Barcelona , was the last straw for La Liga, which confirmed this Saturday (12) that it had denounced PSG for its distortion of the transfer market.

La Liga insists that, by using the money coming from Qatar , PSG "improves its competitive position and generates significant distortions in several national and European Union markets”, which "allows the club to hire the best players and coaches with these foreign subsidies well above its possibilities in a normal market scenario and obtain income from sports sponsorships for amounts that do not correspond to market prices. Circumstance that allows him to improve, on the other hand, his sporting performance, in addition to affecting the ability to hire rival clubs”. According to the Spanish league, these distortions “severely harm the sporting ecosystem”. which represents the beginning of the application of the European Regulation on foreign subsidies that distort the internal market (the "Foreign Subsidies Regulation"), presented a document to the European Commission to denounce that PSG's financing mechanisms generate a serious distortion in the internal market of European Union (EU).
The said rule, applicable from July 12, 2023, focuses on foreign subsidies, granted by States outside the EU to companies that carry out an economic activity in the domestic market, including those from public companies controlled directly or indirectly by a State, including those granted in the five-year period prior to the application of the aforementioned regulation.
For this reason, LALIGA filed a complaint considering that PSG received foreign subsidies from the State of Qatar, which allowed it to improve its competitive position and generate significant distortions in several national and EU markets.
Specifically, as analyzed in the aforementioned complaint, the said entity obtains resources on non-market conditions that distort different closely related markets, allowing PSG to sign the best players and coaches with these foreign subsidies well above their possibilities in a normal market scenario and obtain income from sports sponsorships for amounts that do not correspond to market prices. Circumstance that allows it to improve, on the other hand, its sporting performance, in addition to affecting the hiring capacity of rival clubs.
On the other hand, this better sporting positioning would also allow PSG to improve its competitive position in adjacent markets to sports competition (for example, the audiovisual marketing markets of competitions or the sponsorship market), thus determining an artificial increase in the value of the club in the market.
That is why LALIGA trusts that the European Commission, thanks to this new regulatory tool will take the necessary measures to eliminate market distortions such as those described, which seriously harm the sports ecosystem."

Created by Flamengo and considered one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, Lucas Paquetá does not hide his love for Mais Querido. Now, the player tries to pass on this red-black passion to the next generation. Thus, the athlete appeared in a video on social media teaching his son to sing the Mengo anthem.

In images published on social media by Lucas Paquetá's wife, which were reposted by the athlete, he appears at a moment relaxing with his family and helping his son sing the Flamengo anthem, even joking: “you have to sing it all”.

SOUNDED BY FLAMENGO

It is worth remembering that Lucas Paquetá was one of the names desired by the Red and Black board in the last transfer window. The midfielder is linked to West Ham (ING), but is experiencing a turbulent situation in England. This is because the midfielder is being investigated by the English Federation (FA) for "misconduct in relation to betting" in four Premier League matches.

Thus, Mais Querido even tried to convince the English team that a change of scenery would be positive for the player. However, West Ham did not accept the values proposed by Flamengo and the negotiation did not progress.

DECISION AT LIBERTADORES

Most Querido is focused on the confrontation against Peñarol, in the Libertadores quarter-finals. Therefore, Flamengo faces the Uruguayans this Thursday (19), at 7pm, at Maracanã.

Without leading a team since September 2023, when he was fired by Flamengo shortly after the defeat in the Copa do Brasil decision, Jorge Sampaoli opened up about the experience he had in his third job in Brazilian football. The Argentine was in charge of Rubro-Negro for just over five months, and also coached Santos and Atlético-MG in Brazil.

Speaking in an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, Sampaoli highlighted the level of demand of the Brasileirão, and did not hesitate to refer to Flamengo as “the biggest club in the world”.

“Brazil is the most demanding league I have participated in”, said the coach. “Ten thousand times more than the Spanish, for example. It's played every two days, you have to win always, always, always. Even more so in Flamengo. There is great popular demand at airports, in hotels, everything is very intense. Flamengo is the biggest club in the world, with 45 million fans. You can't lose a single game.”

The coach ended his time at Flamengo with 39 games played between April and September 2023.

There were 20 wins, 11 draws and eight defeats during the period, in a termination agreement that cost R$9.5 million to the red and black coffers.

“They evaluate you by the numbers. At Flamengo we got 70% of the points, but that wasn't enough. In Brazil, if you don't win, you have to leave. We lost the final (of the Copa do Brasil to São Paulo) and left. Losing teaches us, even more so if we have time to review our mistakes”, said the coach, who also responded about the reason why he still keeps Rio de Janeiro as his home.

“I did very well at Santos , at Atlético-MG and a little at Flamengo. My youngest children were born in Brazil, although my partner is Chilean. We adapted to Rio.”

When asked by the report if he would accept taking over a team in Brazilian football again, Sampaoli left the doors open.

“I would accept. I would also like to train in Europe or anywhere in the world where there is a serious and lasting project. In Brazil, the madness is excessive, and every three games they fire a coach. In Europe I notice a little more patience. There is a lot of urgency to win and playing is not valued.”
