In the NBB Clássico dos Milhões, FlaBasquete came back from behind to beat Vasco 84-78 on Thursday night (27) at Maracanãzinho. After the first two quarters were way below par, Orgulho da Nação came back with a different attitude after halftime and managed to defeat their rivals from Rio. With 22 points, Alexey was the star of the match, achieving a double-double with 12 assists.
Highlights
Alexey – 22 points and 12 assists;
Shaq Johnson – 15 points.
1st Bedroom
FlaBasquete's first two points in the match were scored by Ruan, who worked the ball well in the paint and scored on a layup. Kayo Gonçalves then scored the first three-pointer of the game. The classic was very evenly matched in the opening minutes, played point by point, with Vasco holding a slight advantage on the scoreboard. When they went down to the offensive court, the red-and-black team wasted many shots, allowing the opponent to quickly transition to attack. After staying stuck at five points for a few minutes, Lucas Siewert and Alexey converted two three-pointers for Mengão. Despite the red-and-black reaction in the final seconds of the quarter, Vasco closed the set winning 19 to 16.
2nd Bedroom
The start of the second quarter was marked by an intense battle for possession of the ball. Shaq Johnson received the ball on the perimeter and hit a three-pointer, reducing the deficit a little. One positive point for the red-and-black team was a slight improvement in shooting. Halfway through the second quarter, Vasco's lead was only two points. With low free throw efficiency, the red-and-black team wasted valuable points, as Vasco's defense stopped plays with many fouls. At an important moment, Alexey appeared free and hit a three-pointer. With a first half well below par, the Pride of the Nation went into the break losing 41 to 32.
3rd Room
In the third quarter, FlaBasquete continued to make the same mistakes in attack, struggling to finish plays with points. Until Shaq Johnson received the ball with freedom and hit a three-pointer. He was also fouled and converted the bonus free throw. Then it was Jordan Williams' turn to score a three-pointer. An important moment that made Orgulho da Nação grow in the game and close in on the scoreboard, reducing the difference to just two points. And it didn't take long for Mengão to turn the score around. Shaq Johnson tried the three-pointer again and it went in. In the final minutes, Mais Querido took off! The balls started falling again and the red-black advantage kept increasing. An excellent quarter of recovery for Rubro-Negro, who showed their power of reaction, closing the partial with an advantage: 61 to 56.
4th Room
In the last quarter, the Pride of the Nation kept up the pace. Alexey worked well in the paint and scored two points on a layup. Soon after, Gui Deodato dunked and Jordan Williams scored another three-pointer. On defense, the red-and-black team managed to contain Vasco's attacks, which were no longer offering much trouble. With an assist from Alexey, Ruan dunked, scoring two more points for Fla. In the final minutes, the game became electrifying again, with Vasco closing in on the scoreboard. But Mengão made its quality prevail, getting the points needed to win 84 to 78.

Flamengo basketball team confirmed the arrival of Eric Buckner and Guilherme Hubner to bolster the key for the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, which will be played in Singapore from September 18th to 21st. The signings were made on a one-off basis, as the team deals with significant losses in its roster.
Negotiations became necessary after Ruan Miranda 's injury, which tore his anterior cruciate ligament during the AmeriCup, while playing for the Brazilian national team. Another absence is Taya Gallizzi, who has not yet recovered from the injury suffered in the last NBB CAIXA tournament . The team will also be without Franco Baralle, who underwent ankle surgery following an accident earlier this month.
At 35, Eric Buckner has built a solid career in European and Asian leagues. A former Georgia State player, he held the school's record for blocks and was named Georgia Men's College Player of the Year in 2012. As a professional, he played in Turkey, France, Greece, Russia, Kazakhstan, China, and Lithuania, most notably for Monaco, Türk Telekom, Zenit, and Zalgiris Kaunas. In 2022, he won the VTB United League title.
Guilherme Hubner, 38, is a well-known figure in Brazilian basketball, recently surpassing the 500-game mark in the NBB CAIXA. He was MVP of the 2017/18 Finals for Paulistano/CORPe, averaging 11.8 points and 6.2 rebounds . He has also played for Unifacisa, KTO Minas, Limeira, and Liga Sorocabana. In 2022, he represented Unifacisa in the South American League, averaging 11.2 points and 6.4 rebounds.
Coach Sergio Hernández emphasized the importance of the signings given the losses suffered: "Erick Buckner and Guilherme Hubner are coming to help us in Singapore. They are two very experienced pivots, accustomed to all types of competition, all types of situations. They will be very important," said the coach.
