On Tuesday night, Flamengo beat Brasília 88-79 at Arena BRB in the capital, and achieved its 25th victory in 32 matches in the qualifying phase of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB). In a classic that has already decided titles and marked an era at the beginning of the last decade, Rubro-Negro gave no chance to its rival and controlled the action from start to finish , with a major performance by its main players.
Highlights included Franco Balbi and Shaq Johnson, who led the attack with aggression and efficiency, as well as Ruan Miranda, who was a defensive pillar throughout the match, helping to neutralize the attacks of the Brasilia team, in addition to contributing 17 points.
Now, there are only two remaining matches in the qualifying phase before the start of the playoffs: on Sunday (13), against Bauru, and on Tuesday (15), against Franca – both away from home. But before the ball goes up to the knockout phase of the national competition, Mais Querido has ahead of it the long-awaited Final Four of the Basketball Champions League Americas (BCLA) , which will be played in Rio de Janeiro.

After a series of games in which Flamengo only found its best rhythm in the third quarter, the team reinforced the need to “start strong”. The promise of a more focused start was fulfilled from the first second on Tuesday: the team came out with great posture , especially on defense, and did not allow Brasília to even breathe in the first minutes. They went more than three minutes without conceding points and went 7-0 on the scoreboard, setting the tone for a solid performance from the beginning — as had been demanded by the cast and coaching staff in recent rounds. Alexey and Gui Deodato led the scoring until the end of the quarter, which ended in a partial victory for FlaBasquete by 20 to 15.

Franco Balbi entered the court and put the ball under his arm: seven points in a row for the Argentine point guard at the beginning of the quarter and the opponent called a timeout. Flamengo was winning 27 to 19. Brasília tried to react, but the Pride of the Nation was focused on both sides of the court. With an impeccable end to the first half, which included a basket by Shaq Johnson at the end of the clock, Mengão went to the locker room winning 43 to 27.

The silent highlight of the match was Ruan Miranda. With 13 points and 5 rebounds up to this point, he was also the star of the red-black defense, protecting the rim like no one else. In the third quarter alone, the young center had two blocks. Offensively, Shaq Johnson was having a great night. Sharp in his shooting, the American had a 60% success rate on three-pointers. The third quarter ended as the second began: a parade of Franco Balbi, who scored five more points in a row: Flamengo 66 x 53 Brasília.

The last period saw a super aggressive Brasília team, with great use of the three-point line. When it seemed that the home team could not make any more mistakes, the more experienced players of the red-and-black team knew how to slow down the pace, reduce the number of possessions and secure the victory on the way back to Rio de Janeiro. End of the game. Flamengo 88, Brasília 79.
The Pride of the Nation returns to the court next Sunday (13) to face Bauru, at 6 pm, in the interior of São Paulo , for the penultimate round of the regular phase of the NBB.
The player arrived with promising status after great performances in Argentina and Sergio Hernández did not mince words in praising his talent.
