Plastic surgeries offer a wide range of interventions, and even the forehead can be reshaped through frontoplasty, also known as forehead reduction. This procedure gained visibility on social media after ex-BBB Thais Braz performed the surgery in 2022. Recently, Brunna Gonçalves also revealed that she had undergone this intervention.

Despite the growing popularity on social media, many people still have questions about frontoplasty. Emilly Freire, plastic surgeon at Clínica Facelines, in São Paulo, explains the main points about the technique.

What is Frontoplasty?

According to expert, frontoplasty involves repositioning the hairline. “The surgery consists of making a cut close to the beginning of the hair to remove a strip of skin, advancing the scalp and thus reducing the length of the forehead”, explains Emilly Freire. The objective is to reposition the hairline, moving it forward.

The intervention has a maximum scalp advancement limit of up to 3 centimeters. The decision on how much to reduce is based on a detailed facial analysis. The plastic surgeon calculates the proportion to ensure that the upper third of the face (forehead) is harmonious with the other two thirds of the face.

Indications and Considerations

“This surgery is recommended for patients whose upper third of the face is disproportionate to the rest of the face, which can negatively impact self-esteem”, says Dr. Freire. She highlights that the procedure is not recommended for correcting baldness.
