The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) released, this Thursday (30), a statement signed by the entity's president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, explaining why Lucas Paquetá was not cut from the final squad for the Copa América. The player presented himself normally to coach Dorival Júnior, in Orlando, in the United States.

The 26-year-old midfielder is being accused of manipulating results in the Premier League. The player denies that he has committed misconduct and reiterates that he will fight with all his might to clear his name. In the note, the CBF claims that it exchanged information with authorities from the English Football Federation (FA) and that a cut would constitute an anticipation of the penalty.

Check out part of the CBF note:

In summary, based on the information provided by the FA, it is categorically concluded that the player Lucas Paquetá, despite the conduct for which he was reported authorizing preventive removal, as provided for in E16.1 of the FA regulations, was not convicted until now by the processing entity and legitimized to sanction him.

And, so to speak, it is right to say that the athlete is free to exercise his professional role until the present moment, source of his livelihood and his family, in a full and unrestricted manner, whether for his club or for the national team of his country of origin.

In this context, in light of the constitutional matrix principle of the presumption of innocence enshrined in article 5 , LVII, also applicable in the administrative sphere and in sporting procedures, by virtue of which no one can be considered guilty until a final and unappealable criminal sentence has been issued attesting to the materiality and culpability of the offender, the CBF cannot, in an authoritarian manner and in the absence of English Association that is handling the case, sentence the player and prohibit him from playing for the national team, under penalty of configuring an evident anticipation of sentence, which, under no circumstances, at least under current national legislation, can be tolerated.

In view of the above, and in view of the facts reported by the English Federation, the CBF, supported by the opinion prepared jointly by the Legal, Governance and Compliance Directorates and the Integrity Unit, decides to maintain the player's call-up.

Records of cases of racism in football grew by around 39% in one year, according to the 10th Report on Racial Discrimination in Football, released this Thursday (26), at the CBF headquarters, in Rio de Janeiro. The 2023 edition of the document was released this Thursday (26), in the CBF auditorium, by the Observatory of Racial Discrimination in Football. The work was carried out in partnership with the CBF and the Study Group on Sports and Discrimination at UFRGS (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul).

According to the Observatory, 136 cases of racism were registered in 2023 , an increase of 38.77% compared to the previous year, when 98 incidents were recorded. Since 2016, there has been an annual increase, with the exception of 2020, due to the new coronavirus pandemic. In relation to 2014, the first year of monitoring carried out by the Observatory, incidents increased by 444% (from 25 to 136).

"The increase in reported cases in relation to the previous season reinforces the severity of the problem and the persistent challenges, which require, more than ever, innovative, effective and continued actions, in order to break with passivity and historical complicity with racism", stated the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, the first black person to command the CBF in more than 100 years of the institution's history.

“We believe that the battle against racism, in its different forms, cannot be won in isolation. Only cooperation between the different agents that make up our society can guarantee future generations a world in which respect and dignity are universal values, and not exceptions”, added Ednaldo Rodrigues.

“This data is not just bad. It also presents an important evolution, which is greater awareness among fans and players. If we have more complaints, it is because Brazilian society is more attentive to understanding what racism is and its different forms of expression”, added the founder and executive director of the Observatory, Marcelo Carvalho.

The report also offers a description and developments of each case and highlights others related to other types of discrimination and violence, such as sexual abuse, harassment, fatphobia, support for Nazism and politics.

INCREASE IN CUTTING< p>Over the years, the Report increased its analysis to other types of discrimination, such as LBGTphobia, machismo and xenophobia, to other sports and to incidents involving Brazilian athletes abroad.

In total, The document on Racial Discrimination in Football also shows an increase of almost 7% in cases of discrimination reported in relation to the previous season.

From this expanded scope, 250 discriminatory incidents were identified, 222 of which occurred in Brazil and 28 with Brazilian athletes abroad. 222 occurred in football and 28 in other sports.
