The family of Juliana Marins , a 26-year-old publicist from Niterói (RJ), disputes information released by the Indonesian government and the Brazilian Embassy in Jakarta about an alleged rescue of the young woman , who fell while hiking in a mountainous region of the Asian country on the night of last Friday (19).
According to an official statement, a mountaineer managed to reach Juliana about 16 hours after the accident , which occurred around 7 pm Brasília time. He provided her with water, food and stabilized the Brazilian on a stretcher, but there is no exact date for when she will be removed.
However, the young woman's sister, Mariana Marins, denied this information in the early hours of Sunday (22). " We received, with great concern and apprehension, that the information that the rescue team took food, water and clothing to Juliana , as reported by the Indonesian authorities and the Brazilian Embassy in Jakarta, is not true," she told the newspaper O Dia.
LAND CONDITIONS AND LACK OF STRUCTURE
According to the family, the difficult terrain where Juliana fell – steep, close to a cliff and with low visibility – combined with the precariousness of the rescue equipment, prevented the operation from being carried out efficiently. The team allegedly used ropes that were too short and faced adverse weather conditions, with temperatures around 22°C on Sunday.
Furthermore, relatives dispute the veracity of the images sent as supposed proof of the care given to the Brazilian woman. Mariana stated that her sister is no longer at the exact spot where she had previously been seen by tourists who recorded videos of the location.
BRAZILIAN IS MISSING
A new aggravating factor was revealed by the family: Juliana was not found at the last location where she was filmed. Mariana sent O Dia a statement attributed to Basarnas, Indonesia's national search and rescue agency, which states that the young woman was not found even after a team descended about 300 meters down the slope.
