On Saturday morning, the 31st, singer and composer Gilberto Gil, 82 years old, shared a touching video on his social networks, where he appears playing the guitar for his daughter, singer Preta Gil. The artist, who recently turned 50, announced a new diagnosis in her cancer treatment, with the disease being detected in two lymph nodes, in the peritoneum, and in the ureter, with a nodule.
In the video, Gil appears sitting on the end of a bed, playing the guitar and whistling softly, while Preta Gil, resting in an armchair, records the moment with her cell phone. The post was made together with Flora Gil, the musician's wife, and brings a message of hope: "Music has always been a refuge and, with it, Gil continues to strengthen the chain of love and strength for Preta Gil. Time is king and faith does not usually 'faiá'".
Gilberto Gil has played an essential role in supporting his daughter during her treatment. In a recent appearance on the program "Conversa com Bial", last Tuesday, the 27th, an excerpt from Preta's autobiography, Preta Gil: The First 50, was read, where the singer recalls a conversation with her father while she was in the ICU. During this conversation, Gilberto Gil brought words of comfort: “Daughter, nature is wise. We are part of it. We went back to her. This is part of life.” Preta Gil recalled another excerpt from her father's speech, where he said: “If it's very difficult for you, and if it's your time, accept it.”
The program was recorded before Preta Gil's recent hospitalization. However, the singer, in a moment of strength and resilience, shared that she is facing 2024 with a renewed will to live and lots of love. Despite the adversities, she continues to express her determination to overcome the new diagnosis with the same energy that has always marked her career and personal life.

This past Tuesday (17), singer Luísa Sonza celebrated the nomination of the song "Chico", made in honor of Chico Moedas, her ex-boyfriend, for the award for Best Song in the Portuguese Language at the 2024 Latin Grammy Awards. The artist, who was betrayed by the influencer shortly after the release of the song, responded to a fan's comment about "making music for others".
"That Chico will never be forgotten", said an internet user in the page's comments by the artist, who also received the nomination for Best Contemporary Pop Album in the Portuguese Language with Escândalo Íntimo. "Mercy. I love Luísa, but don't make music for any man anymore, no. They don't deserve you", wrote another.
"Do you still think that songs are made for other people? I'm the one nominated for a Grammy me and nothing anyone says or does will take away the pride I have in having made this song! I genuinely love it and I believe this is one of, if not the best song I've ever made", replied Luísa Sonza.
The singer also added: "As I've said since 'Penhasco', I can't stop writing and blocking the creativity of the moment by someone else, or not releasing it because of a third party, the song in the end will always be about me and my feelings, and I swear that I think this is my greatest asset and is one of the reasons for so much success, I am visceral."
Last Saturday, Chico Moedas enjoyed the shows at Rock in Rio and denied the possibility of checking out Luísa's performance, with whom he had a relationship in 2023, who will open the Palco Mundo on the last day of the event: "That's crazy. Singer and actress Preta Gil is about to release her autobiography, entitled “Preta Gil: the first 50”, which will be published by Globo Livros on August 14, Wednesday. This work marks a celebration of her 50th birthday and offers an intimate and sincere portrait of her trajectory.
In the book, Preta Gil shares surprising stories about her personal life and career. The autobiography ranges from moments of great success, such as the creation of his carnival group, to personal challenges, such as the fight against cancer and the end of his marriage.
The work also features images from her personal archive and cover photos by renowned Bahian photographer Lita Cerqueira, known for recording black Brazilian culture. The text has the collaboration of editor and journalist Guilherme Samora.
In In her autobiography, Preta Gil reflects on her life journey, highlighting the learning and transformations she experienced. "I feel like I'm halfway there. I know this self-knowledge thing isn't easy.
I'm reviewing, understanding, processing and rediscovering myself. Life gave me the chance to face cancer, to ending relationships that didn't enrich me and starting new ones. It gave me the chance to be a grandmother! And to be more and more Black," says the artist.
To celebrate the launch, Preta Gil will hold an autograph session open to the public at Livraria da Travessa, located at Shopping Leblon. The event will start at 6pm and 200 tickets will be distributed in the store on the day of the event, upon purchase or presentation of the book.
