In women's volleyball, Brazil achieved an important victory over Japan by 3 sets to 0 (25-20, 25-17 and 25-18), in the second round of the group stage of the Olympics. The highlight of the match was the striker Ana Cristina, who showed off the net and scored 15 points in the duel, passing through a defense that usually causes difficulties for the Seleção.

With the victory, José Roberto Guimarães secured a place in the quarter-finals, reaching six points in two games - they had beaten Kenya in their debut. Now, they face Poland at the end of the initial rounds, in a match that counts for first place in group B.

 HOW WAS THE GAME?

Despite the Brazil won by the maximum score in volleyball, the match was not easy. Known for being a fierce defense team, Japan played great plays and didn't let Zé's team take an early lead in the opening set. In the end, Wada ended up stepping over the line on serve, and left the Seleção comfortable with 23 to 20 on the scoreboard. The next point came from Gabi, in attack, and Carol, with a beautiful block, closed the partial.

In the second set, Ana Cristina, who had already made a great start to the game, scored six of the first nine Brazilian points and put the team up by five points, opening 9 to 4. From then on, it was just management; In the end, after great defenses from Nyeme, Roberta won a free service point due to a Japanese error to make it 2-0 in sets.

The final part also started with great excitement. Koga and Hayashi got into action and didn't let Brazil take a lead at the start. To gain an advantage, it was necessary for Carol to return to the match in style, turning balls into the middle of the net and blocking the Japanese ones. Nyeme in defense, Ana Cristina in attack, Gabi in all of them. Collective brilliance that was closed in the end by Tainara, putting the Seleção once and for all in the knockout stages.

WHAT'S COMING?

Now classified, the Brazilians return to the courts in France only on Sunday (4). In a classified clash, the Seleção will face Poland at 4pm (Brasília time), without the responsibility of winning for the place in the knockout stages.

“Vinícius is not at his best, but he continues to be very important for us. He was decisive in the European Super Cup, for example. He hasn't scored goals like we're used to seeing, but we're in no rush about that: the team scores and he's important, he always gives everything he can. In Brazil, it's a general problem, because the team isn't playing its best football. Two young talents revealed by Flamengo shone in Europe this Saturday (14). Goalkeeper Kauã Santos made his Bundesliga debut for Eintracht Frankfurt, helping the team to a 2-1 victory over Wolfsburg. Kauã entered the field after the experienced Kevin Trapp was injured at the end of the first half. Meanwhile, defender Léo Duarte scored his first goal in European football, securing Basaksehir's 1-0 victory over Bodrum in the Turkish league.

Kauã Santos, who arrived at Flamengo at the age of 16, he never played for the Rio club's main team. After standing out in the youth categories, the goalkeeper caught the attention of Eintracht Frankfurt, who invested R$8.4 million for 70% of his economic rights. On his debut, Kauã was unable to save a penalty taken by Baku, but held off Wolfsburg's pressure, helping to maintain his team's victory.

In turn, Léo Duarte, Copinha champion, rose to Flamengo professionals in 2016 and, little by little, established himself as a starter. In 2018, Milan, from Italy, spent 11 million euros to sign him. After a discreet spell at the Italian club, Léo transferred to Basaksehir, where he finally scored for the first time in Europe.

Léo Duarte and Kauã Santos' moment in Europe

Léo Duarte's Basaksehir occupies third place in the Turkish league with 10 points, just two less than leader Galatasaray. Kauã Santos' Eintracht Frankfurt is in sixth place in the Bundesliga, with six points, three behind leaders Bayern Munich.
