Palmeiras officially announced this Friday (29) the signing of attacking midfielder Andreas Pereira, formerly of Fulham, England. After the draw against Corinthians in the Brazilian Championship, coach Abel Ferreira praised the former Flamengo player and highlighted his experience and technical ability.
Abel Ferreira on Andreas Pereira, ex-Flamengo: "we know the quality he can bring"
"We swapped a wonderful player (Richard Ríos) for another (Andreas Pereira), who arrives from the Premier League with experience. This type of player doesn't need to be asked by the manager whether he likes him or not , because we know the quality he can bring to our squad, which combines experience and youth," the Portuguese said at a press conference.
Palmeiras paid €10 million (approximately R$63 million) for the player, in installments spread over four years. The club had already attempted to sign Andreas at the beginning of the season, but the player opted to remain in Europe , while Fulham refused to release one of the team's standout players. At the time, the club had offered €20 million (R$126 million).
With the new 2025 window, the scenario has changed: Andreas is looking forward to returning to Brazil , where he had played for Flamengo, with the 2026 World Cup in mind, and Fulham could lose him for free next year if the player signed a pre-contract with another club from January onwards.
Andreas Pereira's debut for Palmeiras will only take place after the FIFA International Day. During this period, the coaching staff will prepare the midfielder physically for the upcoming matches : the match against Internacional in the Brasileirão and the match against River Plate in the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals.
The Qatari club tried to sign the number 9 with a million-dollar offer, but the club's board did not open negotiations; the player remains focused on regaining prestige.

In recent days, Flamengo received an offer from Qatar's Al Rayyan to sign Pedro. The proposed figure was around $20 million (approximately R$110 million), but the board promptly rejected the offer and did not continue negotiations. The information was initially reported by journalist Venê Casagrande.
The Arab market's interest in the striker isn't new . On other occasions, Middle Eastern teams have signaled offers, forwarded them to the player's staff, but none have come forward. This time, the approach came from the team led by Artur Jorge, former Botafogo coach.
Despite the external pressure, Pedro has remained focused on Flamengo and is working to return to his peak. According to Fabrício Lopes, the striker is committed to regaining his place and, most importantly , to regaining coach Carlo Ancelotti's attention on the Brazilian national team.
At the last World Cup, the number 9 was part of the "Amarelinha" squad and wants to return to the squad. To do so, he knows he needs to maintain his consistency and increase his contribution on the field . Currently, the national team's number 9 will be Chelsea's youngster João Pedro .
This season, the striker has played 28 matches, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists. In the last four games, he has started three times, finding the net six times and providing two decisive passes to teammates. His recent performance reinforces the player's confidence and increases his chances of being scouted again by the national team's coaching staff.
Negotiations were considered positive by the Rio de Janeiro club and the athlete, who was looking for more professional opportunities; the contract in Saudi Arabia runs until 2027.

Matheus Gonçalves' departure for Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia was made official this week and is considered advantageous for both the Mais Querido and the player. The 20-year-old forward, who came up through the ranks at Ninho do Urubu, hadn't been receiving the minutes he expected under Filipe Luís, which influenced his decision.
Before the agreement with the Arab club, the athlete was close to playing for CSKA , Russia, and Cruzeiro, but negotiations did not progress. The transfer window was nearing its end when Al Ahli officially made an offer of €8 million (approximately R$50 million at the current exchange rate). The signed contract will run until 2027.
The youth academy director, Alfredo Almeida, commented in an interview with Barbacast on YouTube that the athlete himself expressed dissatisfaction with his limited space in the first team. For him, the quality of the red-and-black squad was also a determining factor.
" Matheus Gonçalves himself wasn't comfortable, in his opinion, due to the lack of opportunities in the professional team. He had opportunities. Often, the question I ask when people ask why Matheus Gonçalves doesn't play anymore is: 'Who are you taking out?' The squad is so stacked, so good, so qualified…" said the director.
A product of the club's youth academy, Matheus Gonçalves was a standout player in the U-20s, but he didn't achieve the desired run in the senior squad. Despite expectations, he played 54 games and scored six goals, a number considered modest given his potential.
For Alfredo Almeida, the negotiation was positive: " It will probably be beneficial for all parties: financially for Flamengo, for Matheus Gonçalves, and for his agents, who have the opportunity to increase his value. Business-wise, it was beneficial for everyone, especially for Matheus. I think he'll be happy where he is."
The Mais Querido striker participates remotely in the hearing that could determine his future; the trial is the first step in the sports sphere

Defendant in the Sports and Common Courts, Bruno Henrique began to be tried this Thursday (5) by the Superior Court of Sports Justice ( STJD ), in Rio de Janeiro. The Flamengo striker did not appear in person, but participates in the hearing remotely.
The player's physical presence was not mandatory. Furthermore, he is on a four-day break granted by the club due to the FIFA ban. The trial, scheduled for 9 a.m. , is considered the first step in resolving the case in the sports arena.
If convicted, number 27 could appeal to the full STJD, the highest court, requesting a stay of execution. If acquitted, the Prosecutor's Office may also file an appeal. The trial may also not be finalized today if one of the auditors requests further review.
The striker is accused of having passed on privileged information about the yellow card he received in a match against Santos , held at the Mané Garrincha stadium, in Brasília, on November 1, 2023. The suspicion is that this data benefited bettors.
In addition to the striker, Claudinei Vitor Mosquete Bassan, Andryl Reis, and Douglas Barcelos were also charged by the Superior Court of Justice (STJD). The case also names Ludymilla Araújo Lima, Wander's wife, and Poliana Ester Nunes Cardoso, Bruno Henrique's cousin. However, neither of these are currently under review by the sports court.
