Flamengo's strong point at the beginning of the season, the defense managed to regain its consistency after a period of oscillation. With the 3-0 victory over Millonarios, last Wednesday (28), at Maracanã, Rubro-Negro reached the mark of four games without being leaked by their opponents.

The feat is important for the red and black defense, which was going through a moment of questioning. Before starting the good run, Tite's team showed irregularities in defense and conceded eight goals in eight games.

"It's important (not to concede goals), as well as growing in every way. the awareness that we are working every day to improve. It's always good to be winning without conceding goals", said David Luiz.

With the departure of Fabrício Bruno to West Ham-ING, Flamengo's defense must go through an internal dispute for the position. Léo Ortiz and David Luiz start at the front, and the club must still look for another player for the position.

"Even with Fabrício, it would be a very good competition with four, five players, even Cleiton also, that he is a base player who has a lot of future too. So, it will be a good fight where everyone will do the job, regardless of the competition", guaranteed Léo Ortiz.

Now, the Flamengo turns its attention to the Brasileirão. The next match will be against Vasco, at 4pm (Brasília time) next Sunday (2), at Maracanã. The Classic of Millions is valid for the 7th round of the championship.

The 28th round of the Brazilian Championship brought important changes to the top of the table, especially for Flamengo. After Palmeiras' victory on Sunday (29), São Paulo beat Corinthians 3-1 and overtook Mais Querido in the fight for a direct place in the Copa Libertadores. Corinthians, who ended the game with two players sent off, were unable to avoid the setback.

The game, played at the Mané Garrincha Stadium, started in a balanced manner, with few clear chances to score in the first half. However, in the 45th minute, Calleri conceded a penalty after being brought down in the box. With the help of VAR, Fagner was sent off, and Lucas converted the penalty, opening the score for São Paulo.

SECOND HALF WITH MORE EXpulsionS AND GOALS

At the beginning of the second half, Corinthians tried to react, but the difficulties increased after the expulsion of André Ramalho, who hit Luciano with an elbow. With two players less, the black and white team saw São Paulo increase the score in the 29th minute, with Arboleda scoring with a header.

Even with a goal from Yuri Alberto, who saved for Corinthians, the team from São Paulo sealed the victory in stoppage time, when André Silva scored the third goal. With the result, São Paulo reached 47 points, surpassing Flamengo, which now occupies fifth place with 45 points.

OTHER RESULTS AND IMPACT IN THE TABLE

In addition to São Paulo's victory, the round also featured triumphs from Palmeiras and Fortaleza, who beat Atlético-MG and Cuiabá, respectively. Botafogo, leader of the competition, drew with Grêmio, a result that keeps CRF far from the fight for the title. Flamengo, who still has a game in hand, will need a quick recovery to avoid the preliminary phase of the Copa Libertadores and keep their dream of a direct place in the continental competition alive.

This Sunday, Mais Querido will take the field against Athletico for the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship with a mixed lineup. Due to the physical exhaustion of some athletes and with the focus on the semi-final of the Copa do Brasil, which will take place in the middle of the week, coach Tite chose to preserve part of the squad. Eight changes will be made compared to the team that played against Peñarol last Thursday, when CRF was eliminated from the Libertadores.

GABIGOL AS STARTER

Gabigol, number 99, is one of the confirmed starters for the match. The striker will have a new opportunity as a starter after almost two months, repeating his role as a starter in the game against São Paulo, in August. Matheus Gonçalves, a young man who has stood out in recent matches, is also selected for the offensive sector.

Of the athletes who played against Peñarol, only Rossi, Léo Ortiz, Gerson and Plata will start this Sunday's clash. Important names such as Varela, Fabrício Bruno, Léo Pereira, Alex Sandro, De La Cruz, Arrascaeta and Bruno Henrique will be on the bench, ready to enter if necessary.

The CRF formation will have: Rossi in goal ; Wesley, David Luiz, Léo Ortiz and Ayrton Lucas in defense; Pulgar, Alcaraz, Gerson and Matheus Gonçalves in midfield; with Plata and Gabigol forming the attacking duo.

SKILLS AND RETURNS

In addition to Carlinhos' suspension, Expelled in the match against Grêmio, Tite will also be without some important players. Michael, who has already returned to training, will only be available for the game against Corinthians, in midweek. Other absences include Cebolinha, Viña, Pedro and Luiz Araújo.

Flamengo was eliminated from the Libertadores last Thursday (26), when they only had a goalless draw with Peñarol, but lost on aggregate. In this way, Mais Querido joined Palmeiras and broke a historic sequence. This is because, for the first time since 2017, none of the clubs are in the semi-finals of the competition.

With the draw with Peñarol, Mais Querido was eliminated in the quarter-finals, after losing 1 to 0 in the first match. On the other hand, Palmeiras fell to Botafogo in the round of 16, 4-3 on aggregate.

In this seven-year period, Rubro-Negro was a triple finalist in the Libertadores, winning two titles (2019 and 2022). In the current edition, Mais Querido reached the quarterfinals and fell to the round of 16 in three others. Palmeiras reached two decisions and won both (2020 and 2021). Furthermore, the alviverde team stopped in the semi-finals three times.

FLAMENGO'S SITUATION

Eliminated from the Libertadores, Flamengo will only have two competitions to focus on: Copa of Brazil and Brasileirão. In the national knockout round, Rubro-Negro faces Corinthians in the semi-final. In the points competition, Flamengo needs to win again to get out of fourth place.

FOCUS ON THE NEXT CONFRONTATION

Flamengo and Athletico-PR meet face this Sunday (29), at 8pm, at Maracanã. The clash will be valid for the 28th round of the Brasileirão and around 20 thousand tickets have already been sold. The match will be broadcast live on Premiere.
