Flamengo is already preparing for the 2024 season. With results leaving something to be desired this year, the club has established five players that it will focus on for signing. Unlike the approach of the last transfer window, the big names do not only involve athletes from abroad.
Two of these targets defined by Mengão were 'lost' recently. The Mais Querido tried to hire Nicolás de la Cruz, from River Plate (ARG), and Wendel, from Zenit (RUS), in this transfer window that ended in August.
Both players had made a verbal agreement with the red-negro, but were unable to release their teams. However, this does not mean that the Rio de Janeiro club has given up on midfielders. In fact, everything indicates that Mais Querido will start making proposals again in January.
Another target already sought by Fla is Bruno Méndez. The defender is about to end his contract with Corinthians. A formal proposal has already been presented to him by Flamengo. There is even the possibility that Méndez will be the first official reinforcement for the club next season, if he accepts the terms of the agreement.
From another Brazilian team, there is also Mauricio. Internacional's standout player - Flamengo's next rival this Saturday (26) - has been receiving formal consultations since the beginning of the year and these follow to 2024.
In addition to the midfielder, it should also be mentioned Mengão's most recent interest: Bernard. The former Atlético-MG player is playing for Panathinaikos (GRE). At the age of 30, he does not rule out the possibility of returning to Brazil next year.
He, however, is not a certainty, as he is also being sought by Palmeiras. There is also the point that Bernard said in a recent interview that he would like to prioritize Galo, the team that revealed him, if he comes back to national football.
