This Thursday (5), FIFA will hold the long-awaited group draw for the first edition of the Club World Cup in the new format, with 32 teams. The tournament will be played in June and July 2025 in the United States. Among the participants, 16 secured a place for continental titles, another 15 for the technical ranking of the confederations, and one place was allocated to the representative of the host country, as per tradition of the FIFA World Cups.
The Inter Miami, the team of Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, is the host representative, even without having won Major League Soccer (MLS). This decision generated controversy, especially after the club's early elimination in the quarterfinals of the 2024 MLS season. The choice of Inter Miami as the North American representative was announced on October 19, shortly after the team won the Supporters' Shield, an award given to the best performance in the MLS qualifying phase.

Despite this, the team did not maintain favoritism and was eliminated byAtlanta United in the playoffs. FIFA justified Inter Miami's appointment as strategic, betting on Messi's global appeal. For Flamengo 's sports science coordinator, Cláudio Pavanelli, the investment places the club on a par with European football giants: "Some devices are specifically for athletes.
