Despite the tradition of big signings in recent years, Flamengo starts 2025 with a more conservative in the ball market. The new board, led by Luiz Eduardo Baptista (Bap), carefully evaluates financial and strategic movements, which explains the lack of reinforcements so far.
The legacy of Landim management
During Rodolfo Landim's presidency, Flamengo invested heavily in reinforcements, with more thanR$1 billion spent over six years. Financial impacts and challenges
In addition to the anticipation of hiring, other factors contributed to the financial squeeze:
Purchase of the Gasologista land: Cash payment of R$ 146 million for the new stadium project.

Bap acknowledged the challenges during his inauguration in December, but downplayed the risks:

Budget restructuring
The new board is reviewing the budget prepared by the previous administration. Although the document provides for €20 million (R$ 127.5 million) for hiring, it has not yet been approved by the Deliberative Council, which should occur by March. Meanwhile, Flamengo operates based on the 2024 budget, which authorizes corrected expenses of €30 million (R$ 160.8 million).
José Boto, new football director, highlighted the need to professionalize management and guaranteed that the available resources are sufficient to meet the club needs.
Hiring planning
Flamengo's priority is to find a replacement for Gabigol, who left the club for Cruzeiro, and reinforce strategic positions without making mistakes. Pedro's recovery, scheduled for May, increases the urgency for a center forward before the Club World Cup Super in June.
The club also has an extra window in June, which offers more time for adjustments to the squad:

Defender Léo Pereira and full-back Alex Sandro received their third yellow card in the goalless draw against Cruzeiro and are serving an automatic suspension.

Bahia will have great difficulties when facing Flamengo this Sunday (5), in the 27th round of the Brazilian Championship. The team led by Rogério Ceni has 13 absences, a record number of the season , for the clash at Arena Fonte Nova, in Salvador, at 6:30 pm (Brasília time).
The Tricolor de Aço will have absences across all positions: goalkeeper, defense, full-backs, midfield, and attack. Nine players are injured and four are suspended, forcing the coach to resort to an alternative formation to face the league leaders.
Among the players missing are Luciano Juba, Rodrigo Nestor, Santiago Arias, and Sanabria , as well as players recovering from injuries like Kanu and Erick. The situation forces Ceni to assemble a new defense and even consider potential debutants.
