The victory over Madureira and conquest of Guanabara Cup, this Saturday (2), represent the beginning of a new generation at Flamengo, according to Arrascaeta. One of the four remaining from the historic 2019 team, the star ruled out comparisons and cited changes over five years. Still on the field, he celebrated the first title with new protagonists and focused on more achievements in 2024.

“2019 has passed, it's been a long time. Many new players, new coach, methodologies. Each coach has their own. We have to worry about now, about the future that will come and work hard to be victorious”, said Camisa 14, on the Maracanã lawn.

Arrascaeta highlighted that the red-black cast is formed by high quality athletes both on and off the field. Therefore, the idol believes that the team is on the right path to continue the process of evolution and win more cups throughout the season.

“When you are in a great team like Flamengo you will fight for important things . If you don't win, the pressure will be great. We started the year well, we have a hard-working group and we are doing the best we can. We have to keep improving and working, because we have players to achieve important things. So, it's about continuing game by game, feet on the ground and growing as a group. We have very high quality players, but very human people too and that helps a lot”, he stated, before commenting on the importance of achievements after 2023 without titles:

“Regardless of the cup, we have to enter to win. We are at Flamengo, let's not forget that. Every title we compete for is very important. We certainly started the year very well and winning, which is the most important thing to give us confidence for the rest of the season.”

Several Uruguayan newspapers covered the tie between Flamengo and Vasco this Sunday (15). Among the main vehicles, “El País” and “Montevidéu Portal” highlighted that Luiz Araújo left the classic with a possible knee injury and could be absent for Rubro-Negro in the first game of the Libertadores quarter-finals against Peñarol, next Thursday (19).

Luiz Araújo played just 18 minutes in the classic. The attacker felt his knee after a challenge with a Vasco defender and even tried to continue on the field, but ended up being replaced by Arrascaeta. At half-time, Flamengo issued a statement informing that the player will be re-evaluated by the medical department at Ninho do Urubu. The squad will be presented again this Monday afternoon (16).

Uruguayan newspapers consider the possible absence of Luiz Araújo a big problem for Mengão. The athlete is a starter in Tite's team, with the most matches for Flamengo this season (50) and leader in assists (10).

The newspaper 'El País' classified the player as a key player for the team: “The injury to Luiz Araújo, one of the most important players in Mengão's squad, expands the list of injured players just a few days before the clash against Peñarol in the Copa Libertadores.”

The 'Montevideo Portal' followed the same line, highlighting the importance of the striker: “In addition to the result, another bad news for Peñarol's next rival in the Copa Libertadores it was the departure of Luiz Araújo. The fast right-winger, starter for Flamengo, felt pain in his right knee after a blow.”

Currently, Flamengo's medical department has five injured players: De La Cruz, Michael, Cebolinha, Viña and Pedro, with the trio formed by Cebolinha, Viña and Pedro only expected to return in 2025.

Expectations for De La Cruz in the game against Peñarol

While awaiting Luiz Araújo's diagnosis, coach Tite revealed, after the draw against Vasco, that he hopes to count on De La Cruz for the duel against Peñarol . According to the coach, the Uruguayan's presence could improve the effectiveness of the team, which has shown good performance in recent matches.

“In training, when he (De la Cruz) was leaving, I asked 'is there enough for 20? minutes?'. He smiled, because he couldn't. The physical department definitely said they were not in a position to do so. Not even him feeling well. Especially because you have to talk to the athlete, because then there is the charge. Hopefully, and I hope that he can be there on Thursday to reproduce today's performance, with greater effectiveness”, said Tite in the post-game press conference between Flamengo x Vasco.

The Flamengo guaranteed a place in their fourth consecutive semifinal of the Copa do Brasil after beating Bahia 1-0 at Maracanã, in a game marked by the dominant performance of Tite's team. With a decisive goal from Arrascaeta, the Rio team showed superiority in both the defensive and offensive sectors, exciting the more than 65 thousand fans present.

The victory in the second leg of the quarter-finals was a clear demonstration that Flamengo still maintains the backbone that shone in 2019. The trio formed by Gerson, Bruno Henrique and Arrascaeta, which was fundamental to that year's historic campaign, continues to be a key player in the team's performance. Gerson, in particular, is experiencing the best moment of his career, being the team's main technical and emotional reference. Acting as a true leader on the field, he has stood out as a decisive player, both in the construction of plays and in marking.

FLAMENGO AND HIS BACKBONE

Bruno Henrique, for his time, it showed that it still has a lot to offer. Recovered from injuries and in good shape, the striker used his speed and physical strength to destabilize Bahia's defense, being one of the main responsible for the pressure exerted on the opponent's field. Arrascaeta, even without being in full physical shape, continues to be the team's biggest difference when it comes to unbalancing games. His goal was an example of how, even without being 100%, the Uruguayan is capable of deciding important matches.

The defensive system also had a brilliant night. The duo formed by the experienced Léo Ortiz and the young Everton Araújo, aged 21, was crucial in holding back Bahia's attack. Everton, in their first match as a starter under Tite's command, showed maturity and calmness, both with the ball at their feet and in their defensive actions. The young midfielder, who had already shown his value on other occasions, such as in the 1-1 draw against Athletico-PR, when he scored the goal that saved Flamengo from defeat, stood out again, proving that he deserves more minutes on the field. .

This outstanding collective performance was essential for Flamengo remained firm in the search for another Copa do Brasil title. Tite's work, which has been rotating the squad and giving opportunities to younger players like Everton Araújo, is starting to show results. The combination between the experience of veterans and the youth of new talent has been one of the factors driving the team in this final stretch of the season.
